B O O T SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 444,703, dated January 13, 1891.
Application filed June 25, 1890. Serial No. 356,690. (No model.)
T0 [6 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILO FRANCIS J ARDEN, shoe-maker, of the village of Selkirk, in the county of Haldimand, in theProvince of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boots, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design a boot which may be economically cut from the hide with the least possible waste, and when made will not wrinkle across the vamp; and it consists, essentially, of a boot in which the vamp upper and lower quarters are made in two pieces joined together with a single vertical scam in the center of the back of the boot, and a central longitudinal toe-seam covered by a tip or toe-piece shaped to extend up the vamp, forming a support for the said vamp across the point where it usually wrinkles.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved boot. Fig. 2 is a plan of one-half of the vamp upper and lower quarters. Fig. 3 is a plan of the toe-ti p.
In the drawings, A is the vamp, B the upper quarter, and O the lower quarter. The corresponding vamp and quarters on the opposite side of the boot are similarly made out of a single piece of leather, as indicated, and the two parts thus formed are joined by a vertical seam D at the back of the boot and by the seam E, as shown by dotted lines at the toe of the boot. The two parts thus joined together are shaped as shown in Fig. 2 and form a graceful and easily-fitting upper.
WVith a View of strengthening the vamp at plish the desired effect without interfering with the central opening g of the boot.
A boot made in accordance with the diagrams shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and otherwise made as described, is not only economical to make in consequence of the advantageous way in which the hide may be cut, but the boot when made is exceedingly comfortable to wear, and will be very durable, from the fact that its vamp will not wrinkle, and that it is much strengthened by the Wingsfextending up on both sides of the opening.
Vhat I claim as my invention is- A boot having the vamp and quarters made in two pieces joined together by the seamsl) and E, and a toe-tip having a central notch f and two wingsf, said boot having its central opening extending into said notch and being strengthened by the wings extending up each side of the central opening, substantially as described and shown.
