LEMON-SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 444,063, dated January 6, 1891.
Application filed June 5, 1890. Serial No. 354,390- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGENE D. EMMONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented acertain new and useful Lemon-squeezer, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the subject-matter hereinafter described, and more particu- IO larly pointed out in the claim appended. I
attain these results by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an isometrical view of the ma- '15 chine complete as it appears when in use securely fastened to the wall, sideboard, bar, or counter in a perpendicular position with the removable cup in place and the lever depressed in the act of squeezing. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through cup, showing strainer in place with head partly inserted in said cup.
Similarletters referto similar parts throughout the several views. The plate G, with its several brackets I I, M M, O O, and P, constitutes the frame of the machine, which is to be fastened to the wall, sideboard, bar, or counter by means of screws. The head-O with its rod D, cross-head K, links L L, and lever F, with said head 0 working into and in connection with cup A, form the squeezing mechanism, the fulcrum of said lever F being formed by pin R, passing through one end of said lever and through brackets O O on plate G.
The cup A, with its two hooks E E, hooking into and swinging upon the two brackets M M, constitute the removable swing-cup. At bottom .of cup is an opening or escape H, through which the juice is permitted to escape into atumbler orother like vessel. The perforated plate or strainer B, being raised above the bottom of said cup on suitable supports or in contact with it, forms the straining or separating device. Said cup A being lined with porcelain and said perforated plate I or strainer B being covered with porcelain prevents the corroding of the metal by the acids. The rod D, passing through holes in bracketsI I, assures an up-and-down motion of the head 0 and an accurate position for head 0 on rod D at all times. Thus by raising the lever F head 0 is raised clear of the cup A, when cup A is swung to one side and be squeezed is accomplished by the bearing down of lever F, by means of which head 0 and the perforated plate or strainer 13 are brought closer together with the substance lying between squeezed of its juice, which juice is permitted to escape through the oblong opening in the bottom of the cup marked H. The bracket P, above which swings cup A in such a manner that when the cup is in place for squeezing the bottom of said cup rests upon said bracket, forms a support for the cup, thus taking a greater part of the strain and relieving the hooks E E from a part of the strain which they would otherwise be called upon to sustain, and thus remove all liability of breaking said hooks, said bracket beingalso provided with a flange or rib N, against which said cup swings, thus securing a position and an accurate stop for said cup, so that at all times when the cup is swung in place for squeezing it will be in alignment with head 0, so that said head C can enter said cup without coming in contact with said cup and without further attention by the person using the squeezer.
The foregoing, with the drawings, I consider a complete description of my apparatus to enable any person to arrive at a complete and thorough understanding of its workings. Therefore,
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, in a squeezer, of the plate G, brackets I, M, O, and P, rod D, head 0, cross-head K, links LL, and lever F, with the removable swinging cup A, with its hooks E E, removable perforated plate B, supporting bracket P, and stop-flange N on said bracket, substantially as and for the purposes aforesaid described.
