SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,825, dated December 30, 1890.
' Application filed July 23, 1890. Serial No. 359,64'7- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blacking-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in blacking-cases; and it consists in certain features of construction and in combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation partly in section, the former showing the brush-box closed and the latter showing it open. A represents the brush-box of the case.
B is a cup or receptacle for holding the blacking. The top of the brush-box and cup B are preferably integral, the cup depending below the top, so that the lid B of the cup is about flush with the top of the brush-box. Lid B is pivoted at b and is slid to one side in opening the cup. Brush-box A is provided with a door A, hinged at or near the upper end in any suitable manner, but is preferably pivotally hinged, as'shown at a. Door A is provided on the inner surface thereof with a transverse groove or recess'cfor receiving the head 0' of the bail-shaped support C, the legs of the latter being secured at C to the sides of the brush-box,the head a of support C passing under about rod or staple D, secured to the inner surface of door A lengthwise thereof, the arrangement of the parts being such that when door A is opened to a horizontal or approximately a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, the head of the baillike support is guided by staple D into groove or recess 0, and thus the door is locked in such open position and serves as a foot-rest. Door A is also provided on the outersurface day of July, 1890.
thereof with a corrugated pad or plate E of any suitable material, preferably rubber, that serves as a foothold when the .door performs the function of a foot-rest.
The blackingcase shown is designed to be secured to a wall, the back wall of the case extending somewhat above and below the remainder of the case and having holes F for receiving screws or other fastenings.
\Vhat I claim is- 1. In a blacking-case, the combination, with a brush-box, of a combined door and foot-rest hinged at or near the upper end thereof and locking mechanism located inside the box for locking the foot-rest in a substantially horizontal position, substantially as set forth.
2. In a blacking-case, the combination, with abrush-box, of a combined door and foot-rest and locking mechanism located inside the box adapted to hold the door and foot-rest in a horizontal or approximately a horizontal position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a blacking-case, the combination, with a brush-box, of a cup or receptacle in the upper end of the brush-box and integral with the top of the latter, said cup or receptacle having a sliding lid approximately flush with the top of the box, substantially as set forth.
at. In a blacking-case, thecombination, with a brush-box, of a door hinged at or near the upper end thereof and locking mechanism pivoted to the box and having sliding connection with the door for retaining the door in an open position, the door having on the outer surface thereof a corrugated pad or plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 2d CHARLES F. DEMME.
