CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters 'Patent No. 442,968, dated December 16, 1890.
Application filed June 14, 1890. Serial No. 355,452. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
be safely carried within the waist and always retained in the desired position.
The invention consists in the novel details of improvement that will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure lis a perspective view ot' a corset provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail inside view showing how the pocket is held in the corset. Fig. 3 is a detail outside view at the pocket, and Fig. t is a cross-section on the line c c, Fig.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a corset, which is shown provided with shoulder-straps B, skirtsupporters c, and stockingsupporters h.
D is a pocket shown placed in the depression between the swell CZ ot' the bust or bosom and the vertical external edge e of the corset, by which the two halves of the corset are joined. The pocket D, which is shown in the form of an independent baglike structure having two vertical parallel sides, is placed on the inner side of the corset, its opening f on top leading to the outer side ot the corset, as shown. The pocket D overlaps the junetion g of the two sections 7i i of the corset, as shown. The pocket D is held on one of its vertical sides by the line of stitches j, that hold the casing c2 for the steel, clasps, buttons, or button-holes at the edge c of the corn set, while its other vertical edge is held by the line of stitches l, that hold the section m on the swell d of the bust or bosom.` By this means economy of manufacture is produced while the pocket is firmly held so:that it cannot move sidewise, thereby preventing the contents of the pocket from coming over the bosom or behind the steels at the center of the corset, whereby injury to the person or to the contents of the pocket is prevented.
The lower doubled edge of the pocket is shown free or disconnected, so that the pocket can be distended to receive its contents even while its sides are held to the corset and without changing the contour of the corset. The upper outer edges of the pocket .at the mouth of the same are bound by braid n o, which strengthens it at that part.
By the above-described arrangement the 6o pocket is iirmly held in position, and it is placed in the depression between the swell of the bust or bosom and the edge e, so that the contents of the pocket will not show through the waist, and whereby also the some special fastening device (if made secure.) Such device is not ot' my invention, nor is a pocket which depends from a pocketopening. The special location of the pocket and the particular means of securing it in xed position distinguishes it from prior 8o pockets.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is- In a corset, a pocket located between its front central vertical line and the bosomswell ot' the same, said pocket lying within the corset and having one of its vertical edges stitched thereto near said central line and its other vertical edge stitched to the same along the edge of the bosom-swell section, 9o
and provided at its upper part with an open.` ing through the corset, substantially as set tort-h.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed my name, in presence ot two witnesses, this llth day of `Iune, 1800.
