No. 440,340. Patented Nov. 11, 1890.
NITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM H. VVILLSON, OF \VASHTNGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
PORTABLE SANITARY STAND OR CLOSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 440,340, dated November 11, 1890.
Application filed December 13 1889. Serial No. 333,635- (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WILLSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Sanitary Stands or Closets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sanitary stands or garbagereceivers; and it consists, substantially, in such features of construction, arrangement, and combinations of parts, as will hereinafter be more particularly described, and pointed out in the claims.
The invention has for its object to provide a sanitary stand or garbage-receiver which may be conveniently located to receive the accumulations of garbage and filth, and one also from which no offensive or disagreeable odors can escape.
The invention has for its further object to provide a sanitary stand, closet, or garbagereceiver which shall enablepersons designated for the purpose of collecting garbage to readily do so without inconvenience or trouble, all as will more fully hereinafter appear when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a rear vertical elevation of my improved sanitary stand or garbagereceiver, the same being shown with the door thrown open, so as to more clearly indicate interior arrangement. Fig. 2 is a top or plan View with the lid or cover turned upwardly. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line w a: of Fig. 4; and Fig. 4. is a vertical sectional elevation of Fig. 3, taken on the line yy,the dotted lines representing the manner in which the brackets or receivers aretilted outwardly to evacuate their contents.
In carrying my invention into effect I provide a suitable stand or closet having supporting-legs and provided with a closing lid or cover and a door at the front or rear thereof, preferably at the rear. The top of the said closet is also provided with a supplemental fixed cover having suitable openings through which unclean water or unhealthy matter is permitted to be poured or emptied into suitable buckets or receivers located within the closet.
The closet is provided with one or more compartments, (preferably two,) and in such compartments are located suitable buckets or receivers, which are supported on trunnions, by which said buckets or receivers are permitted to be turned outwardly and evacuate their contents. Preferably I employ suitable springs, attached to the sides of the buckets or receivers, and serving by their arrangement to restore said buckets or receivers to their positions or seats within the closet. I also employ above the buckets or receivers suitable pans for containing disinfectant material to prevent escape of sickening or unpleasant odors. I I also sometimes employ around the interior walls of the closet some suitable lining of disinfectant material, which adds somewhat to the efficiency of results obtained; but this latter need not be adopted, if not found desirable.
Reference being had to the drawings by the letters marked thereon, A represents the stand or closet, the same having suitable support= ing-legs a a and being provided with the hinged lid or cover I), the top 0 having openings cl d and the door e at the back.
Altho ughl may employ any number of compartments, I have shown in the drawings two compartments ff, the same being divided by the vertical partition g, between which and the two sides h h of the closet or stand the trunnions 2' i have their bearings and are adapted to rotate therein.
The buckets or receivers are supported to one side of their centers on the trunnionst'z', as shown, and arranged parallel with the trunnions are the stationary rests or supports j, which serve as seats, upon which the said buckets or receivers rest while in their normal positions.
As a convenient means of restoring the buckets or receivers to their places after they have been tilted outward to relieve them of their contents, I resort to the use of suitable springs 70, attached to the sides of the receivers and the inner sides of the stand or closet, as shown. These springs serve to restore the buckets or receivers in an obvious manner, and they need not be more specifically referred to; also do I preferably employ above the tops of the buckets or receivers suitable pans m m, which hold some doodorizing or disinfecting material, and these pans are so constructed as not to interfere with the entrance of Water into the buckets or receivers through the openings in the stationary top of the stand or closet. In other words, an opening is left in the pans for such purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a stand or closet for sanitary uses, the closet A, having stationary top provided with openings and also having a hinged lid and hinged back, the said closet being provided
