P. HEILMA-NN-DUGOMMUN.
APPARATUS FOR STEAMING WOOLEN FABRICS OR YARNS. No. 439,149 Patented Oct. 28, 18901 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL HEILMANN-DUCONHVIUN, OF MULHAUSEN, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO HEILMANN-DUOOMMUN & STEINLEN, OF SAME PLACE.
APPARATUS FOR STEAMING WOOLEN FABRICS OR YARNS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,149, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed March 12, 1888. Serial No. 267,066. (No model.) Patented in England September 20, 1887, No. 12,776, and in Austria-Hungary March 9,1888,N0.10,683 andNo. 23,171- l To all whom it may cancern:
, Be it known that 1, PAUL HEILMANN-DU- COMMUN, of h/liilhausen,Alsace,in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Steaming \Voolen Fabrics or Yarns, of which the following is a true specification, the same having been patented in Great Britain to myself and Charles Vincent Steinlen September 20, 1887, No. 12,776, and in Austria-Hungary March 9, 1888, No. 10,683 and No. 23,171.
My improvement relates to the construction of an apparatus for steaming wool fabrics or yarn, which apparatus has the object of so treating the thread, as hereinafter described, that it will not curl when reeled off. I term this fixing the thread, as the fibers are given a tendency to maintain their positions relative to each other. The said improvement effects the steaming in much shorter time than has previously been done, and is much more regular without deteriorizing the nature of the fabric or yarn.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section through the apparatus, and Fig. 2 a front view of the same.
a is a boiler with the lid or cover I), which can be snugly closed, the said cover orlid being attached to the boiler by the hinges c, and capable of being raised by means of a pulleyblock and chain or rope engaging with the eye cl.
For the purpose of rendering the coverwater and air tight, a rubberpacking e is placed in a groove of the flanges of the boiler, and the said lid can then be tightly closed by means of thefastening-screws f. The girders g in the interior of the boiler serve to receive a carriage or support, in or on which the baskets, boxes, or other receptacles h, containing the yarns to be steamed, are placed, the said yarns being protected from the dripping of the condensed water by the lid h of the receptacle.
A closed reservoiri is arranged beneath the boiler a, in which the moist steami. 6., steam, water, and air-for the steaming process is generated and regulated as to temperature and moisture. After this reservoir i has been filled with water through the faucet up to the overflow-faucet Z steam is allowed to flow through the pipe m. This generated steam of desired temperature and moisture is led into the boiler a by means of the faucets rm, which can be simultaneously operated by means of the lever 0.
To insure an even distribution of the steam as it enters the boiler a, a sieve p is fixed to the rails g immediately over the opening through which the steam enters.
To insure the effective action of the moist steam on the fabric or yarn by preliminarily withdrawing from it the air which occupies its interstices, a partial vacuum is made in the boiler a, as by an exhausting-injector, before opening the faucets n n, and in this manner the deleterious effect of too high a temperature is obviated, and the time of steaming is essentially shortened.
The front wall of the steam-generator 1' contains a closable opening q to admit air, and also two thermometers t for determining the temperature of the water and steam.
The boiler a is provided with a manometer w to determine the steam-pressure, and is lined with copper or other suitable metal to prevent the oxidizing of the iron.
For the purpose of easily producing the vacuum, the boiler is provided with an injector 8, into which the steam-pipe 11. runs.
Having now described the nature of my said invention, what I claim is 1. In an apparatus for steaming Woolen yarns, the boiler a, having the snugly-closing lid or cover I), in combination with the receptacle h and its lid or cover h, thesteam-generator 'i, with closable opening q, faucets 'n, sieve p, and rails or girders g, all arranged substantially as and for the. purpose herein described.
2. In an apparatus for steaming woolen fabrics, the boiler a, lid 17, india-rubber packing e, receptacle h, lid 72/, girders g, and sieve p, in combination with the steam-generator 'i',
havinginlet and overflow faucets 1c and Z,ther my name in the presence of two subscribing mometers t t, for ascertaining the temperature Witnesses of Water and steam, and closable openin q, i w i, substantially as and for the purpose set forth PAUL IIEILMANN DULOMMUN' in the foregoing specification and shown in the WVitnesses:
CARL HUSER, FERDD. MULLER.
accompanying drawings.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed
