Description
HIMROD & MOULTON. Stove Cover for Cooking Stoves.
Patented Aug. 9,1864.-
u. PEI'ERS. Pflvmm n m Wuhington. n. c.
'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
GEORGE HIMROD AND G. G. MOULTON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNORS TO GEORGE HIMROD.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-COVERS OF COOKING-STOVESL Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 4.3,Sl5, dated August 9, 1864.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be. it known that we, GEORGE HIMROD and CHARLE G. MOULTON, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and, useful Improvement in Stoves; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters and figures marked thereon, whichtorm part of this specification.
I n said drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a vertieal section thereof at the line so in Fig. 1.
Our invention relates to the boiler-holes in the top of the stove and the covers thereof; and it consists in a novel construction of said 1) iler-holes and covers for thepurpose of preventing the eracking or breaking of the sur rounding parts by the expansion of said covers, the principal portion of the heat naturally coming upon the said covers and causing them to expand to a greater extent than the surrounding or contiguous parts. The latter would he, therefore, cracked or broken by the pressure unless prevented as herein described.
To enable those skilled in the art to understand and construe-t ourinven tion, we will proeeed to describe the same with particularity.
A represents the top plate of a stove, and is prov ided with the removable piece a, between the boiler-holes.
1 represents the cover upon the boiler-hole when not in use, and 0 represents the open boiler-hole, the cover being removed. The bed upon which the outer portions of the covers rest-that is, the circumference of the boiler-holesis made concave, as shown, while the perimeter of the cover is constructed with a corresponding convexity, by which arrangement, when the heat expands the cover B, instead of pressing out against the plate A laterally, and so'breaking it, as is usually the case with stoves, the cover, by swelling against the curved support beneath it, is raised up from its bed in proportion to its expansim. It is evident that this arrangement would, therefore, have a great and beneficial result in preventing the breakage of stoves as aforesaid.
Having described our improvement in stoves, we will now specit'ywhat we claim as new therein and desire to secure by letters Patent.
We claim- The combination of the cover 13, provided with the convex perimeter, as shown, with the concave bed of the boiler-hole 0, arranged and operating as and for the purposes herein specified and shown.
GEO HIMROD. CHAS. G. MOULTON.
