Description
UNITED STATES DANIEL REED, OF DERBY, CONNECTICUT.
|MPa'ovEo SOAP-ou P.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 42,021, dated March 22, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DANIEL REED, of Derby, in the county ot' New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and usetul Soap-Cup 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, when taken in connection with the accompanyin g drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, y and which said drawings constitute part ot' this specitioation, and, represent, in-
Figure 1, a side view showing an edge view of the handle; Fig. 2, a view showing the face ot' the handle; Fig. 3, a top view; and in Fig. et my cup is attached to a common laundrytub.
My invention consists in constructing a soapcup with an attachment which serves the double purpose of a handle and as a self-adjusting contrivance by which the cup may be readily attached to the edge ot' a laundry-tub for the convenience of the laundress.
To enable others to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to fully describe the the same.
I form my soap cup A from cla-y, metal, or wood, preferring the latter for many apparent reasons. If hard soap is to be used, I place a perforated plate, B, into the cup, (see Figs. 1 and 3,) as in common soap cups. I form a han-v dle, C, from some elastic metal-as brass or steelsecured to the cup at the upper edge and free at the bottom, as see Fig. 1. I also secure at or near the bottom edge of the cup a curved adjuster, D, ot similar metal. (See Fig. 3.) The spring-handle C serves for the purpose ot' carrying the cup from place to place, as may be required for domestic uses,
and also to hang the cup to the laundry-tub, as see Fig. 4, the elasticity of the spring handle C yielding sufficiently to allow it to be so placed, while the curved adjuster' D rests against the side of the tulo to hold the cup level, and thus the cup is or may be placed in the most convenient position for use, whether as hung to the laundry-tub or to other domestic utensils, the elastic handle and'adjuster always serving to hold the cup level within reasonable limit.
I do not broadly claim hanging a cup by means lof a hook 5 but What I do claim as new, and desire to se ,Cure by Letters Patent, .is-
The combination and arrangement described of the elastic handle C and curved adjuster D with a cup, A, for the purpose substantially as specified.
DANIEL REED.
