To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE ARTHUR BID- DELL, of Ipswich, in the county of Suffolk, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Fittings of Drawers and other like Articles of Furniture, (for which I have received Letters Patent in Great Britain, dated April 3, 1877, No. 1,298,) of which the following is a specification.

The invention consists in the construction described, and pointed out in the claim.

In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will now describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figurelisacentral Vertical section through a chest of drawers, and Fig. II is a section on line y y through the chest.

A is the casing, and B the drawers. roller 0 is fixed below each drawer near the front end of the chest, and is adapted to revolve in two apertures made in the bearingpieces f. One end of each cord D is carried through holes at the back of the drawer, as at g, and secured by a knot. The cords are wrapped two Or more times around the roller and the other ends carried around screws 8, firmly fixed in the bottom edge Of the front of the drawer, and made fast to cleats h, at tached to the under side of the bottom of the drawer.

In this device the cords are not exposed across the drawer when it is pulled out, and so are not in the way in getting articles in and out of the drawer, and besides there is not so much danger of the articles being caught by the roller.

The combination Of a drawer and its casing, a roller supported by one of said parts, and a flexible guide engaging the periphery of the roller and secured at its ends to the other of said parts being old,

I claim herein- The combination, with a drawer and its casing, of a shaft or roller suitably journaled in the casing near the front of thebottom of the drawer and atright angles to the line of movement, cords or equivalent flexible connections, one near each end of and secured to the drawer in rear of the roller and wound around the roller, projections on the under side of the drawer, around which the free ends are carried, and cleats to which the free'ends are made fast, substantially as set forth.
