OASSIUS ALEXANDER SNOOK, OF FORT DODGE, IOWA.
HANGER FOR BUREAUv OR OTHER DRAWERS.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters Patent N0. 686,77 7, dated November 19, 1901. Application tiled February 28, 1901. Serial No. 49,254. (No model.)
To cl/ZZ whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, CAssrUs ALEXANDER SNOOK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fort Dodge, county of Webster, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Bureau or other Drawers, of Vwhich the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to improvements in hangers for bureau and other drawers, the object thereof being to provide an efficient means whereby the drawer is constantly maintained on a horizontal line, moves with a minimum of friction, and can be opened to its full length without liability of accidentally removing it from the framework supporting it.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper part of a cabinet having my improvement attached and which is shown partly in sectional elevation; Fig. 2, a sectional plan view taken on the line a: of Fig. l; Fig. 3, a sectional elevation taken on the line y y of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged side elevation, partly in section, of one of the hangers constituting part of my invention; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional elevation 'taken on the line e e of Fig. 3.
In the practice of my invention I employ metallic hangers A, which are located one on each side of the drawer. These hangers respectively embody sections A and A2, and they are provided with upper and lower slots ct and a forengaging, respectively, the grooved rollers B and C. The rollers B are revolubly connected to the rear portions of the sides 2 of the drawer 1 by means of the spindles D, and the rollers C are revol ubly secured to the sides 3 of the cabinet by means of the spindles D. These said rollers are arranged on horizontal lines parallel with each other, and they engage within the slots a and c of the hangers A, whereby said hangers, as well as the drawer l, are constantly maintained in horizontal position even when the drawer is drawn out to its full length, as illustrated by Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The sections A2 of the hangers A are secured to the sections A by means of screws E, which pass through the sections A2 and enter threaded apertures a2 in the sections A'. They are further secured by means of doWel-pins e, formed on the sections A2 and which engage recesses a3 in the sections A.
The operation and use of the invention are obvious. The rollers being secured, respectively, upon the drawer sides and the side walls of the cabinet in vertical and horizontal alinement, admits of the drawer being moved freely back and forth without liability of twisting or catching and with a minimum of friction, and the drawer cannot be entirely' removed without disconnecting the sections of the hangers, whereby liability of accidentally dropping the drawer during the process of opening is obviated.
I do not confine myself to the specific details and mechanical means of assembling the parts as herein shown and described, as it is obvious that under the scope of my invention I am entitled to slight structural variations.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ism
1. In a drawerhanger, the combination with a drawer; and the framework whereby said drawer is supported; of hangers having two parallel horizontal slots, an upper and a lower set of rollers engaging said slots; the upper rollers being fastened to the sides of the said drawer, and the lower set of rollers being fastened to said framework, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a drawerhanger, the combination with a drawer; and the framework by which said drawer is supported, of slotted hangers, embodying respectively the sections and means of connecting such sections, upper and lower sets of grooved rollers, engaging the slots of said hangers; the upper rollers being rcvo lubly connected to the sides of said drawer and the lower rollers being revolubly connected to said supporting-frame; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 11th day of February, 1901.
OASSIUS ALEXANDER SNOOK. Witnesses:
