CHARLES BORING, OF LAMAR, MISSOURI.
BRIDTLE OR HALTER ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,181, dated September 30, 1890.
Application filed July 12, 1890. $erial No. 358,627. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES DORING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lamar, in the county of Barton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle or Halter Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in bridles or halters; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement and combination of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1- represents a side view of my device. Fig. 2 isavertical detailsectionalview, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, and Fig. 4 isa perspective view, of the hook.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a bridle or halter, the cheek-straps a of which support the chinband and nose-band b, which is usually made of a single strap having a buckle c, by which it can be adjusted.
Within the lower or loop portion d of the cheek-straps, on each side of the bridle or halter, is arranged a hook e, the vertical plate or body f of which is provided 011 its outer face with a loop g, which is centrally perforated, as at h, and the rear face thereof is provided with inwardly-projecting side flanges i, and extension j forms a part of this hook, which braces and holds said plate in the desired position on the cheek-pieces. These hooks are designed to receive the rings of an ordinary bridle-bit, and which latter are supported thereby, the loops of the oheek-pieces preventing the rings from becoming disengaged accidentally, and at the same time the hook takes all wear off said loops, the cheekloops being fastened by the sliding loops is.
A pin 1), which is removable, is passed through the perforations in the plate and loop thereof and through a perforation in the band 6, whereby the hook is held in the desired position on said band. To the nose portion of this band is attached a pair of balls or pads Z, which are provided with loops m, through which the band passes, and said balls are adjustably secured in place by a set-screw n, operating on a spring-plate 0, which, when the screw is set, forces the plate hard against the band, thus holding the balls.
Thus it will be seen that the hooks can be readily adjusted horizontally, the balls likewise, and the hooks relieve the cheek-straps of all wear, and should an animal become unmanageable, to prevent him from running off, his nostrils can be closed and his wind shut off by simply drawing the drivingreins taut. In many cases the nose-strap alone will accomplish this, and the balls can be dispensed with, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The combination, with the nose-band b and cheek-straps a, crown-piece, brow-band, and throat-latch, of a bridle or halter, the hooks provided with the loop, top extension, side flanges, and centrally perforated to receive the fastening-pin, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the nose-strap Z), cheek-pieces a, the hooks, as set forth, crownpiece, brow-band, and throat-latch, of the balls or pads having loops to receive the nose-band, a spring in said loop, and the set-screw, all substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES DORING.
