PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. SAVAGE,
OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
BOX FOR WATCH-MOVEMENTS.
-SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,324, dated August 26, 1890.
Apprenti@ nea August 17, 1889. Reneweaun@ 2s,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. SAVAGE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packing-Casesl for Watch-Movements; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencel being and to which had to the accompanying drawings, letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this speciication.
Figure l of the drawings is arepresentation of this invention, and is a top view, both covers being omitted. Fig. 2 is a top view of the spring-rest. Fig. 3 is a vertical section. This invention has relation to boxes for packing and shipping watch-movements; and it consists in the novel construction and combination ot parts, as hereinafter set forth.
The object of the invention is to provide a Y spring-rest within the outer case, to centralize and support in an elastic manner the inner movement cup or holder, whereby it is designed to obviate any damage to the holder through jarring or concussion of the outside box or casing. The movement cup or holder is held in a centralized manner in the outer casing, so that it is not in contact with the sides'or bottom thereof, and the construction is such as to materially facilitate repacking after inspection.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the outer case or shipping-box, which is of dat cylindrical form, and is usually made with a rolled projecting bead B below its lip C, and D is the flanged cover which ts thereon. l
Eis the movement cup or holder, also of cylindrical form and of less diameter and depth than the outer shipping-case. It is provided with a cover F, which is usually con- Vex. The movement cup or holder is located inside the shipping-box A, and is separated from the bottom and lsides thereof by an interval, (indicated at G.)
II represents a spring-rest, which supports ing the ends ot its arms 1890. Serial No. 357,099 (No model.)
the movement cup or holder within the box or case A in a yielding or elastic manner above the bottom of said case. This spring holds the movement cup from contact with the outer case-and protects it from the eect of any jarring or concussion on the outer case which may happen in transportion. The spring arms or branches K are between the bottom of the box and the bottom of the interior movement cup or holder and form the cushion or rest, the ends ot said spring arms or branches engaging and held in position in the depression formed in the inner surface of the boX A by the rolled bead B. In forming the spring-rest I prefer to make it in the form of a cross, its branches being curved or bent under the movement-cup; but the spring may be otherwise constructed without departing from invention.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
l. In a shipping-case for watch-movements,
the combination, with the outer case, of an interior centralized or concentric movement cup or holder separated from the bottom and sides of said outer case having a cover arranged in contact with the cover of the outer case, and a spring-rest supporting the moves ment cup or holder within the outer case, substantially as specified.
2. The shipping-case for watch-movements, consisting of the outer case, the interior movement cup or holder having a cover arranged in contact with the cover of the outer case, and the spring rest or support sustaining the said holder out of contact with the bottom and sides of the outer case and havengaging and held in position in a depression in the inner sides .of the outer case, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of witnesses. y
WILLIAM J. SAVAGE.
