To all whom z' may concern L' f VBe it known that I, Fnnnrnucn E. CARL- soN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Britain, in the county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vacuum-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe object of the-invention is to produce an article of the character described having features of novelty and advantage, and especially as regards the sealing of the neck of the bottle in the cap and the support of the bottle within the casing.
The subject matter of this application is divided out of a former application, S. No.
ln the drawings`l `igure l is a central vertical section of a device of the class specified in which my invention is embodied, the bottle being shown in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a detail side view of `the support shown Fig. 3 is a top View thereof. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views ofthe seallng device.
Referring to the drawings, a denotes the casing which is provided with a disengageable cap'in order to permit of the insertion and withdrawal ofthe bottle.
Z1 is the bottle, the neck of which preferably projects slightly through an aperture in the lend of the cap.
o is a seziling ring located inan annular groove (l adjacent the aperture in the end of the cap and bearing on an inclined surface of the neck of the bottle. This sealing ring comprises a curved wire spring c with its ends spaced apart, covered by a tubular vcushion c2 of rubber or other resilient material, the ends ot' which abutto torni a complete circle. This provides a resilient gasket or packing,r having a spring core and of such size that it lits in the annular groove d and bears upon the neck ot' the bottle when the parts are properly assembled, providing a cushion between the glass'and the metal and a liquid-tight packing.
Located within the casing is a combined helder and spacerjcompring a resilient support such as the spring c (Figs. l and 2l. a base j' having spring lingers f upon which the bottom ol the bottle rests` and upwardlycxtending longitudinally-bowed arms y, the
`ends 'of which are split and rest against the walls of the casing, and the bowed parts engaging' the sides of the bottle.
ln order to connect the cap with the body of the casing the spring e must be 'compressed, and it willthus be seen that the bottle is held between the sealing' ring and the spring, both being resilient devices and under compression. The upstanding arms support the bottle yieldingly against too great displacement. s a 'result of this construction it will be seen that the bottle is suspended within the casing against movement in any direction by resilient devices, constituting an extremely effective protection against damage to this very fragile structure. The sealing device at the neck of the bottle also constitutes a liquid-tight joint so that any drip down the outside of the bottle cannot run down into the casing.

A easing, a vessel of fragile material located therein, and cushioning means between said casing and vessel, said meanscoinprising a plurality of circuinferentiallylspaced' longitudinally curved strips of resilient materia-l, each strip adapted 'to contact at non-opposite points with said casing and vessel, said strips being free and unconnected With one another throughout their length, and adapted for action ndependently of one another.
6. A casing and a vessel of fragile 1naterial located therein, resilient ineans located between the bottoni of the vessel and the bottom of the casing, cushioning means arranged between the wall of the vessel and the wall of said casing extending longitudinally thereof, said ineans being spaced circumferentially and .unconnected with one another throughout their length.
