Description

H. D. WOODBRIDGE.
BAG HOLDER.
' No. 438,114. Patented July 29,1890.
qwiimaoom M W; is 611mm vertical section, a series of bags being mounted UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. VVOODBRIDGE, OF NEXVARK, OHIO.
BAG-HOLDER.
srncmca'rmn forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,114, dated July 29, 1890.
Application filed March 18, 1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. XVOODBRIDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Bag- Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to devices for supporting in a removable position paper bags for use in retail stores employing such wrappers; and among the objects of the invention is to provide a cheap and simple device for yieldingly supporting a series of bags adapted to be successively withdrawn as required.
WVith the above objects in view the invention consists in certain features of con struction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central in position.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In practicing the invention the holder is constructed in a single piece of spring-wire, and the details of construction are as follows: The blank of wire of suitable length is first doubled upon itself or bent at its center upon a mandrel to form a loop or eye 1, after which the two terminals are diverged, as at 2, and bent at an angle to the eye 1, forming a hearing portion 3. After diverging for a short distance, the two terminals are bent rear- Wardly to form a series of coils 4, said coils being formed upon a suitable mandrel or in other desired manner. After forming the coils 4 the terminals extend upward a short distance, and are laterally bent to form eyes 5, through which are inserted securing-screws (5, whereby the holder may be rigidly connected with any fixed object. Beyond the eye 5 the terminal extends upwardly for a short distance, and is then bent laterally at each side of the holding portion 2, as at 7, and are bent to the Serial No. 344,385. (No model.)
front to form bag-embracing arms 8, the ends of which are bent to form eyes 9.
The package of bags is introduced into the holder by inserting the finger in the eye 1 and drawing said eye and the spring-holding portion 2 to the front, and after the bags have been inserted between the bag-embracing arms 8, and so that their lower ends rest upon those portions of the terminals at each side of the spring-coils i, the spring-holding portions release and serve to snugly press the bags in position. The embracing-arms 8 may be arranged at varying distances apart, so as to accommodate bags of various capacities and hold the bagsin proper alignment, and the entire structure also relatively increased in size. I11 placing the bags in the holder, the package of bags is inverted, so that their doubled ends adapt them to be more readily grasped by the operator for withdrawal, and also, their closed ends being up, the entrance of dust within the bags is obviated.
Having described my invention and its op eration, what I claim is- 1. The herein-described bag-holder, formed of a single piece of spring-wire bent at its center to form the eye 1, and havingits terminals diverged at 2, thence rearwardly coiled at 4, upwardly and outwardlybent to form screwreceiving eyes 5, horizontally bent at 7, and forwardly bent, as at 8, to form embracingarms, substantially as specified.
2. The herein-described bag-holder, formed of a single piece of spring-wire bent upon itself at its center and having its terminals downwardly-disposed and converged, rearwardly bent to form supports, upwardly bent and provided with screw-receiving eyes, and terminating in forwardlydisposed embracing-arms, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signatu re in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY D. \VOODBRIDGE. lVitnessesz EDWARD KIBLER, S. 11. WHITE.
