PAPER-BAG HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Jarrns L. ARMOR and WILLIAM J. Vanxmx, citizens of the United States, residing at Soddy, in the county of Hamilton, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improveinents in Paper-Bag Holders; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention is directed to devices for holding paper bags, and has for its object to so construct the same that it may be conveniently suspended in a store and supplied with bags of various capacities.

A further object of the invention is to so construct a device that the bags may be conveniently removed for use from the holder, and those remaining will be firmly held in place as the number decreases.

\Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combinations and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the bags in place. Fig. is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar view on line of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a support, the same being pretcrably formed from wood, and is adapted to be secured in any suitable manner to the wall or counter as convenience may call for. A plurality of pairs of screw eyes 2 are secured upon. the support and are arranged in spaced vertical relation, the screw eyes of each pair being spaced apart.

Each bag holder 3 is formed from a single length of resilient wire, and consists of side arms -:l, which have their lower ends formed with outwardly curved portions 5. The outer ends of the curved portions 5 curve upwardly as at 6, and are connected by the upwardly curved bar 7. The upper ends of the arms a terminate in lateral extensions 8, and as the holders are formed from resilient metal the arms may be forced toward each other, and when released the extensions 8 will engage the screw eyes 2, thus pivotally supporting the Specification of Letters Patent.

holding the arms 4 thereof in diverging relation. The present form of the device shows three bag holders, but it will be of course understood that the number may be varied as the occasion may require.

To hold the bags 9 in the uppermost holder a spring finger 10 is provided, the same consisting of a single length of resilient wire having its upper end formed with coils 11, said coils terminating in a vertical portion 12, which in turn terminates in a depending portion 13, said spring finger being held upon the support 1, by a staple or the like which engages the vertical portion 12. The lower end of the finger 10 is thus positioned between the upper ends of the arms aof the uppermost holder, and will yicldably engage the upper ends of the bags when placed in this holder.

Each bag holder has coacting therewith a spring member 15, the same consisting of a single length of wire and is so bent as to provide spaced arms 16 having formed intermediate their ends eyes 17 which engage the lateral extensions 8, thus holding the said members against accidental displacement. The upper ends of the arms 16 are connected by a horizontal bar 18 which bears against the support 1, while the lower ends of said arms terminate in hooks 19. which engage the arms 4- of its coacting bag holder, said members tending to force the bag holders toward the support 1 so that the upper ends of the bags 9 in the lowermost holder will be yieldably engaged by the intermediate bag holder, while the bags in the intermediate holder will be yieldably engaged by the uppermost bag holder. The tops of the bags in the uppermost holder will be engaged by the spring finger 10. The bags are placed in the holders with their bottoms fold'ed in such manner that the same may be easily grasped and removed from the holders, the spring members 15 serving to force the holders toward the support as the bags are removed.
