ADJUSTABLE ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR ULIBPERS. No. 429,722. Patented June 10, 1890.
ilNiTED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
TVILLIAM C. HATCHER, OF NORBORNE, MISSOURI.
ADJUSTABLE ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR-CLIPPERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,722, dated June 10, 1890. Application filed July 26, 1889. Renewed May 6, 1890. Serial No. 350,303- (ITdmodeh) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM C. HATCHER, of Norborne, Carroll county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for'Hair-Clippers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
lVly invention relatesto an improvement in hair-clippers; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a gage device adapted to be attached to a haircllpper for the purpose of enabling hair to be out different lengths.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hair-clipper of common form provided with my improved gage attachment. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. of my improved device, showing its parts detached. Fig; 4 is a sectional view of the same.
The clippers are of the usual construction, having the stationary cutting-comb A and reciprocating cutting-comb B, held in position by the pressure-plate O by means of the bolt D and nut E, the said pressure-plate being connected. to the fixed handle G and the movable cutting-comb being operated by the handle F.
I will now describe my improved gage devices to adapt the clippers for cutting hair different lengths. The base-plate a, which is of the same width as the stationary comb, is provided at its rear end with a vertical arm I), having a series of openings 0. A plate 01 is provided at its front end with an open slot e, adapted to engage the bolt D and fit under the washer H on said bolt. From the rear end of this plate depends a bracket f, which has a loop or keeper g on its front side at its lower end, and a pair of forwardly-extending diverging ears g, that areadapted to bear on the rounded rear edge of the' stationary combplate, and thereby hold the plate (1 firmly in Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective viewposition when attached to the clipper. The arm I) of the base-plate passes through the loop or keeper 9 and through a transverse slot h in the plate d, and thereby the said arm is attached to the said plate and is adapted to be moved vertically. A spring-pressed bolt 2' is guided in openings in the bracket, and is adapted to engage either of the openings 0 in arm I), and thereby secure the said arm, and consequently the base-plate, at any desired adjustment. It is obvious that by means of my improved gage attachment the clipper may be arranged to cut hair at any distance from the head.
In addition to clamping the plate d between the pressure-plate C and the washer to secure the gage attachment in position, I provide an arm or hook 70, which has its inner end pivoted to the plate d, and is adapted at its hooked end to engage the stationary handle G, and thereby prevent the slotted plate cl from slipping rearward when the clippers are in operation.
The base-plate a may, if desired, be provided with teeth, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my claim- 1. The gage attachment for hair-clippers comprising the slotted plate 01, having the depending bracket, the base-plate having the vertical arm provided with openings and adapted to slide on the bracket, and the springpressed bolt, substantially as described.
2. The gage attachment for hair-clippers comprising the plate cl, having the open slot at its front end and the depending bracket at its rear end, the said bracket having the loop or keeper and said plate having the transverse slot h, the base-plate having, the vertical arm provided with openings and guided in the loop or keeper and in slot h, and the spring-pressed bolt to secure the base-plate at any desired adjustment, substantially as described.
3. The hair-clipper, having the bolt D and nut E, in combination with the plate (1, having the slot 6 to engage the bolt, the depending invention, I
bracket, and the base-plate having the vertical arm guided and adjustable 0n the bracket, substantially as described.
4:. The gage attachment for hair-clippers comprising the base-plate having the vertical arm provided with openings, the plate (Z to the base-plate when adjusted, and the hookarm 7r, pivoted on plate (I, and adapted to engage the stationary arm or handle of the clippers, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. HATCIIER.
Witnesses:
A. L. MORROW, C. T. CLINGENPEEL.
