UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC WVINFIELD SCOTT FINNEY, OF MEDICINE LODGE, KANSAS.
HORSE-COLLAR FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,205, dated May 20, 1890.
Application filed January 2, 1890. Serial No. 335,647. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, WINFIELD Soorr FIN- NEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medicine Lodge, in the county of Barber and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collar Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom-- panyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to collar-fasteners, and aims to 'provide a simple and eflicient means for securing the ends of a horse-collar together, which when engaged will be held from accidental displacement by the hamestrap.
The improvement consists of the novel features, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the separated ends of a horse-collar and my application thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastener detached from the collar. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the fastener, showing the hame-strap inserted through the fastener-loop.
The fastener comprises the two parts A and B; The partAis a plate tapering at one end and having the openings a, for the insertion of the fastening devices for securing it to the collar. The front end D of the plate is bent up and is provided with the T-slot (Z, and in the rear of end D the plate A has slot 6. The
part Bis a tapering plate, having openings 1), and an arrow or T head F, and having a point f. The head F is deflected from the plane of the plate B, so that the two plates A and B will lie in the same plane when engaged, as most clearly shown in Fig. 3.
In practice the plates A and B are secured to the ends of a collar, Fig. 1, and the ends of the said collar are fastened by inserting the T-head F through the loop or slotted and bent end D. The head F engages with loop D and the end or point fis inserted in the slot e and forms a second fastening means. The parts A and B are held from disengagement-by the hame-strap G, which is inserted through loop D, Fig. 3.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The hereinbefore shown and described collar-fastener, composed of the two plates A and B,the plate B having T-head F deflected from the plane of the plate and provided with point f at right angles to T-head F, the plate having its end D bent up at right angles and provided with T-slot d to receive the head F and form a loop for-the insertion of the hamestrap, which looks the parts together when in engagement, said plate A having slot 6 in the rear of the bent end to receive the said point f, substantially as and for the purpose described. a
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
WINFIELD SCOTT FINNEY.
