COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,309, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed January 13, 1890. Serial No. 336,832 (No model.)
To all 1072 0711, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARION MONROE GREEN,
residing at County Line, in the county of Moore and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and Improved Combination-Tool, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of tools where a single instrument is provided with a number of parts formed and combined together to produce a series of tools most commonly used by mechanics and farmers.
.To this end my invention consists in the peculiar arrangement and novel combination of parts comprising this tool, which will hereinafter be fully described in the annexed specification and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved tool. Fig. 2 is an edge View; and Fig. 3 is a vertical central section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawings, A A indicate two lever-arms, pivoted together at a by means of a removable pivot 17, the outer face of which is provided with a notch b which forms a convenient saw-set, the outer ends of said arms forming the grip-jaws A A while their inner ends form the handle-bars A A as shown, said arms being made of any desired length. The central or pivotal portion of the arms, which are joined in the same manner as the ordinary scissors or handpunch, are provided with radial recesses ff, arranged diagonally to the longitudinal axis of the central pivot, said recess adapted to register when the arms A A are opened outward slightly, whereby said aligning recesses f may be quickly slipped onto a wire, the meeting edges of said recesses-forming shearlike edges adapted to cut the wire when said arms A A are compressed, the said recesses ff passing out of alignment when the arms are closed in, as shown in Fig. 2.
The inner face of the upper ends of the arm A is provided with a projecting pin 0, which fits a socket c in the arm A, whereby a suitable leather-punch is provided. 4 The outer face of the upper end of the arm A is formed with a suitable hammer-butt C, while the opposite arm is provided with a nail-ex tracting claw D. Between the hammer and claw portion and the pivotal point the meet= pers for horseshoeing, (see 70,) the lower end of said meeting faces being formed with reing a suitable means for adapting the tool for a pipe-wrench, said intermediate portion of the arms being extended laterally, as at E, to form an additional grip-section for the wrench part. Below thepivot-point the arms are formed with adjacent beveled cutting-edges, forming'a suitable pipe-cutter G, while the lower ends of the arms are provided with lateral hook-like fingers h h, especially adapted to mend swag-wire by cutting in two and twisting together. The lower end of the arm A is provided with a tack-puller H, and the arm A with a screw-driver J.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it will be observed that I form nine simple and commonlyused tools into one implement, such implement being more particularly adapted for use on farms where fences are used which are put up by means of wire-connections. It will also be seen that. my arrangement of the difierent parts of the tool is such that each tool may construction thereof is such that the same can be quickly, strongly, and cheaply made.
1. A combination-tool formed of two arms tions provided with wire cutting recesses f f, the upper ends of the arm A provided with a nail-extractor, the arm A with a hammer-butt, the meeting faces of said upper ends A A formed ,with a projection and a socket, respectively, whereby a leather-punch is provided, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. An improved combination-tool consisting of two arms or levers A A, formed with pivotal portions, provided with wire-cutting recesses ff in the peripheral edges of said portions, said recesses disposed diagonally to the longitudinal axis of the pivot, the meeting faces of the upper ends of said arms provided with aleather-punoh and with recessed portions forming a pipe-wrench, said arms provided with a pipecutter below its pivot,
cessed portions E, having serrated faces, form- A A, pivoted together at a, said pivotal por-' ing faces of the armsv are formed into gripbe used to special advantage, and that the Havin g thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
the lower ends provided with Wire-twisting hooks h 71-, one of said ends provided with a SC16W-(l1lV6]',LllCl the other with a tack-drawer,
all arranged substantially as and for the pur- 5 pose described.
3. The hereinbefore-described combinationtool, formed of two arms or levers A A, pivoted at a upon a removable pivot Z), the pivotal portions of said arms formed with Wire-cut- IO ting recesses f, the upper ends of said arms formed with nipper-faces 7s, and a leatherpunoh above said upper faces, the arm A formed with a hammer O, the arm A with a nail-extracting claw D, said meeting faces MARION MONROE GREEN.
