COIN-TRAY.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 421,984, dated February 25, 1890. Application filed August 2, 1889. Serial No. 319,585. (llo model.)

To all whom, it'may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. STAATS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ooin-Trays, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in coin-trays; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and arrangements of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of my device.

My invention consists of a series of semi-.

circular coin-pockets of different denominations, so arranged and constructed that they are independent of each other, being sepa rated by partitions. All the pockets of like denomination are of uniform depth.

In the drawings,A represents my coin-tray, which is made of metal or any other suitable material. It is formed with a series of semicircular pocket-s B, independent of each other and separated by the partitions a a. All of the pockets have each an open bottom 4:. I may sometimes provide the bottom of each pocket with a strap or bar underneath across the middle to prevent the coin from falling through. One end of the tray may be formed with a pan or depression 6 to hold loose coin, all of the parts being made, preferably, of one piece of-cast metal or other material. The

pockets, each and every one, are arranged or formed in such a position as to be at any desired angle from a vertical section, as clearly seen in the drawings. The pockets being independent and also at an angle enables me to hold the coins in each pocket separate and free from contact with the coins in the other. pockets, and also permits the coin or coins in one or more pockets to be removed by the operator without contacting or interfering with the coins not required to be removed, which are in the other pockets.

In the drawings I have shown one of the pockets filled with coin. Then the pockets are full of coin, the left-hand edge of the last coinin one pocket will be on a line with the middle of the first coin of the preceding pocket. The quantity of coin in each pocket is indicated by index-figures placed, preferably, 011 the surface-body of the tray at the right of each pocket.

The operation is simple. The pocketshaving been filled with coin to their respective amounts, the operator places his forefinger against the exposed surface of the last coin in one pocket and his thumb against the eX- posed surface of the first coin in the same pocket, and then readily lifts the entire quantity or any number of said coins from said pocket without contacting or interfering with the coins in the other pockets.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A coin-tray provided with a series of independent semicircular coin-pockets arranged at an angle from a vertical section, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
