PATENT OFFICE;
WALTER M. ELLETT AND ROLLO M. won, or ALLIANCE, oruo.
'OR EDlT-ACCOUNTING APPLIANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 772,407, dated October 18, 1904.
Application filed March 30, 1904. 7 Serial No. 200,729- (Ho model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that we, WALTER M. ELLETT and RoLLo Mn VICK, citizens ofthe United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Credit-Accounting Appliances; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact 1 description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon.
The object of the present invention is'to provide a case or cabinet designed for filing papers, preferably account-slips, and bringmg the papers filed in position to be easily distinguished one from the other and at theing three columns of partitions, the left-hand column showing account-slips located upon the partitions and the two right-hand columns without account-slips. Fig. 2is a vertical section showing the location of the partitions with reference to the casing. Fig. 3 is a detached view of one of the partitions. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a portion of the casing and a single column of partitions and illustrating account-slips located on a portion of the partitions.
Similar-numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanyingdrawings, 1 represents thevertical members of the casing or cabinet, and 2 the intermediate vertical members, said members being held in proper relative position by means of a suitable top 8 and bottom 4:, which parts form the'cabinet or frame proper and of course may be of any desired size,'reference being ghad tov the number of columns designed to be employed, the width of the various columns, and the uses for which the device is to be employed.
For the purpose of closing the cabinet proper, together with the different articles contained therein, the front or forward portion thereof may be provided with the hinged their backs toward'their front edges downward, by which arrangement the upper partition and slip carried thereby will not hide from view the slip directly under and upon the next lowest partition, this feature being illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4.
For the purpose of preventing the slips 7 from sliding downward and off from their supports the lower ends of the partitions 6 are provided with the upward-bent portions 8, which upward-bent portions are preferably formed of a length less-than the width ofthe partitions, and from the upper edges of the bent portions 8 extend the tablet-holding portions 9,- said tablet-holding portions being provided-with the flanges 10, which flanges are for the purpose of holding the tablets 11.
In use the name ofthe personcorresponding with the name of the person with whom an account is kept is placed upon the tablet held by the tablet-holding portion 9 of the partition, by which arrangement it can be seen at a glance the account or file pertaining to the person Whose name appears upon the tablet and all of thejtablets of the series exposed to View.
For the purpose of providing a means for easily removinga given slip or slips located upon the various partitions the forward edges of the partitions are provided With the re cesses 12, by which arrangement the slip or slips can be grasped by the thumb and finger and easily lifted up, so as to clear the upwardbent portions 8, after which the slips can be withdrawn for any purpose.
In the construction of cabinets designed to contain a series of columns the columns may be designated according to the points of compass, by which arrangement the residence of the parties whose accounts or papers are contained in a given column may be located with reference to the territory of a city or town.
In use the various partitions are preferably formed of thin I metal and the grooves designed to hold the metal partitions so formed that the partitions will be held in position by frictional contact, and if in the event the grooves should become worn so that they will not properly hold the partitions said partitions may be bent to produce the proper frictional contact.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In acredit-accounting appliance, the combination of a suitable frame having located there- In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
