SUSPENDERBUCKLE.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Iletters Patent No. 416,942, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed August 22, 1889. Serial No. 321,613. (No model.)
To all whom; it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB MYERS, of Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State ot' California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspender-Buckles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention, which is mainly designed for use on Suspenders, but which may be applied to other straps or strap-like articles, consists in a clamp of novel construction, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims, the same to be used as abuckle, but having no teeth to cut or punch holes in the suspender-web or strap 4to which it is applied.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l represents a view in perspective of a suspender-clamp embodying my invention; and Figs. 2 and 3, partially sectional side views ofthe saine with a certain adjustable rubber or binder, which forms one ofits details, in different positions.
A is the frame et' the device, of an elbow forni above and terminating in a hook b below, the same being composed of bent sides c c, arranged at a suitable distance apart, and joined by an upper back fiat cross-bar d and by a lower cross-stay e, that serves to hold the sides at their proper distance apart to secure the free and easyoperation of abinding and releasing iiattened roller B, eccentrically hung upon a cross-pivot rod or bar f, extending between the two sides c c, near their upper front ends. Said sides c c where extended below are bent to approach each other and are doubled and twisted to form the hook b.
The back flat-formed cross-bar d of the frame is held at a suitable distance from the clamping-roller B and carries a back flattened clainping piece or rubber C, which,un like the clamping-roller B, is restrained from turning. These two clamping-pieces B and through the roller near the lower junction of the Hat portion s of the roller with the circular body portion of it.
In the application of the device to a suspender strap or web D, the same is made to freely receive said webthroughit when the clamping-roller B is turned, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2,to bring its fiattened portion s opposite the fiat side or face of the stationary rubber C. When the parts are in this position, then the suspender-web may be easily moved up or down, as required, through the clamping device, and after the suspender has been adj usted as desired then the fingers are applied to turn the eccentricallyshung fiattened clamping-roller B bottom side inward toward the web, as shown in Fig. 3, after which the suspender-web D is pulled upward until it is tightly gripped between the under or circular portion of the eccentricallyrotating roller B and the fiat clamping piece or rubber C.
Then, no matter how strong the strain may be upon the suspender, it cannot pull out from the clamp. To release and move the clamp, it is only necessary to hold onto the latter while pulling down on the suspenderweb, which will cause the clamping-roller B to turn backward and bring its fiattened portion s opposite the flat rubber C, when the clamp may be slid up or down the suspender, as desired, after which the clamping-roller B may be turned to the position shown for it in Fig. 3, as hereinbefore described, and its curved under side brought in contact with ordinary bucklefand it willwear as long as the suspender itself, and by not puncturing the suspender it `will greatly add to the endurance. of the latter.
Having thus fully described my inVenL-ion,I a' hook 1J, the rotatable eeeentrieally hung claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Clamping-roller B, arranged over the hook and Patentconstrue-ted Wit-h a flattened face port-ion s, r 5
1. A suspender-buckle comprising L frame and the flat-faced bar cl and the clamping'- 5 of elbow form, having a {lat-faced Cross-bar rubber C, also carried by said frame and arat one end and provided with a hook at its ranged opposite theelmnping-rollerforoperaother end, and a roller having a flattened surtion in relation therewith, essentlially as shown face and eceentrieally pivoted in the framein and described.
front of the cross-bar, substantially as de- JACOB MYERS. 1o scribed. Witnesses:
2. The combination of the freine A, having E. G. KRAMER,
its sides c c extended and constructed to form DENVER SEVIER.
