SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 415,837, dated November 26, 1889.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. FRISBEE, of Minneapolis, in the county of I-Iennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aprons, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in mens aprons used to protect the clothing in the work-shop or other places of business, or those used as part of society regalia; and it consists in attachments to the apron which make it conveniently attachable to the clothing in different positions, as shown in the construction and combination hereinafter de scribed, and particularly pointed out in the claim. I secure this result by loosely attaching to the upper edge of the apron apair of tabs of some stitt material, such as leather, of convenient size to fit into the pockets of the vest of the user, which may be slipped into either the upper or lower vest-pockets or inside the waistband of the trousers or the armholes of the vest, and thus supportthe apron in any of these several positions, as described. I prefer to secure these tabs to the apron by means of small rings or hooks inserted into holes in the hem of the apron or a strip of leather secured along the top of the apron, the tabs being secured at the proper distance apart to fit the person of the wearer and the distance between the pockets or armholes, as the case may be.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved apron as attached to the clothing of a person in position for use. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line a: 00 of Fig. 2.

In the drawings, 2 represents the body of my improved apron, which maybe of any desired form and suitable material. Secured along its upper edge is the strip 3, preferably of leather, provided with a series of openings 4.

5 5 are tabs of some stiit material, preferably leather, which are attached to the strip 3 by means of the rings or hooks 6, which are passed through the openings 4., so as to secure the tabs at any desired position along the strip 3. The apron is secured to the person of the wearer by inserting these tabs 5 into the upper or lower pockets of the vest on either side of the person, or into the armholes,-according to the position in which it is desired to secure it.

In order to make the upper corners of the apron more flexible, so as to be most readily secured when the tabs are inserted in the armholes of the vest, the strip 3 is preferably severed at 7, leaving the short end pieces slightly wider than the tabs which are secured to them, so that as the tabs are inserted in the armholes the apron folds or bends readily at 7 and the tabs retain their position more securely. The tabs may be adjusted on the strip 3 to suit the size of the person using the apron.

In use the tabs 5 are placed in the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2 at the corners of the apron when it is desired to insert them in the armholes of the vest, soas to protect the clothing upon the chest of the wearer, and is secured by simply slipping the tabs into the armholes.

To remove the apron, the tabs are simply slipped out of the armholes, thus detaching it. To secure the apron in a lower position, the tabs are secured nearer together, as shown in Fig. 2, and at the proper distance to fit into the pockets of the vest, into which they are slipped.

I claim as my invention- In a device of the class described, the combination, with the apron-body, of the perforated strip 3, secured along its upper edge, and the tabs 5, of stiff material, adapted to fit in the vest-pockets of the wearer, and the rings 6, connected to the upper edges of said tabs and passing through the perforations in said strip 3, all substantially as described.
