PLOW ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 415,692, dated November 26, 1889.
Application filed July 27, I889. Serial No. 318,907. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, THOMAS JEFFERSON BAKER and WILLIAM JAMES BAKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Hackett, in the county of Sebastian and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Plow Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in plow attachments; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of aplow, showing our improved attachment applied thereto. Fig.2 is a rear elevation of the attachment removed from the plow. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the attachment.
In carrying out our invention we employ an ordinary shovel-plow A, and to the beam of the said plow and a proper distance in advance of the shovel we secure a standard B, which is composed of two branches adapted to be clamped to the beam, and is suitably braced by a rod 0, having its lower end bolted to the standard, near the lower end of the same, and its upper end secured to the plow beam or standard. To the lower end of the standard 13 we secure the scraper D, which consists of a concave blade of suitable dimensions and provided near its upper edge and about its center with a longitudinal horizontal slot E. The securing-bolt F is passed through the said slot between the branches of the standard and through the brace G, as shown most clearly in Fig. 3. This brace G consists of a metallic strap which is bent around the standard and has the arm II hearing against the rear side of the scraper and provided with a longitudinal slot I, a bolt J being inserted through the blade and the said slot. By means of the slots E and I and the bolts passing therethrough the scraper can be quickly and easily adjusted to run closer to or fartherfrom the plants, as will be readily understood.
In practice the plow is drawn over the field in the usual manner and the scraper will take up and throw to one side all stones and clods of dirt, leaving nothing but the fine soil to be act-ed on by the plow-shovel and thrown on the plants. The proper growth of the plants is thus insured at the same time that the rows are kept clean and free from Weeds. Our attachment can be readily applied to any ordinary shovel-plow, and as it is strong and simple in its construction its advantages are thought to be obvious.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the standard, the scraper resting against the lower end of the standard and provided with a horizontal slot E, the brace having an angular portion fitting around the lower end of the standard, and a lateral arm provided with a horizontal slot I and bearing against the rear side of the scraper, the bolt secured in the angular portion of the brace and passing through the standard and the slot E in the scraper, the bolt secured in the scraper and passing through the slot I in the brace, and the securing-nuts on said bolts, as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in presence oftwo witnesses.
