Description

(No Model.)
0 S HIRST DEVICE FOR PRESSING AND STEETGHING TROUSERS.
Patented Nov. 5, 1889.
i UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES S. HIRST, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DEVICE FOR PRESSING AND'STRETCHING TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414315, dated November 5, 1889.
Application filed November 7, 1888. Serial No. 290,Zl7.
To all whom it may con ccrn:
Be it known that I, CHARLES S. HIRST, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and County of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Device for Stretchingand Pressin g Trousers,wh ich improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to inprovements in a device for stretching and pressing trousers, the object being the production of an inexpensive and efficient device of the character and for the purpose mentioned.
The invention consists of a device for stretching and pressing trousers, comprising two boards or strips between which the trousers are placed, clanped, and flattened out, or may simply be pressed when so desired.
The figure represents a perspective View of a stretching and pressing; device for trousers embodying my invention.
Referrng to the drawing, A and B designate two boards, between which the trousers to be stretched are placed. The board A has i secured to it staples C in this instance, four of which are employed, and which are located near the corners of the said board. The board B is provided with slots or openings D, which freely allow the passage of the staples C, and through said staples are passed the keys or wedges E, which clamp the boards together.
The operation is as follows: The trousers to be stretched are placed on the board A and the creases or wrinkles therein are smoothed (No model.)
out. The upper board is then placed in position and connected at the lower end by wedges, thus clamping the foot portions of the pantaloons to the boards. The trousers are then stretched by drawing or pulling the waist portion thereof, this being permitted owing to the openings D being somewhat longer than the staples, thereby allowing one end of the board to be slightly raised while the other end is partly wedged, after which the upper ends of the board are elamped together, thus retaining the trousers in stretched and flattened condition, whereby the baggng of the same, especially at the knees, is taken out. When the boards B are relieved of their clamping action, they may be separated and the trousers removed therefrom. A
In speaking of boards I do not necessarily confine myself to Wood as a material for making the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A trousers presser and stretcher consisting of the boards, staples, and wedges combined substantially as described, one of the boards having the staples Secured thereto and the i other board having lengthened openings through which said staples are adaptsd to pass, as set forth.
CHARLES S. HIRST.
