SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,441, dated October 8, 1889. Application filed July 1, 1889. Serial No. 316,225. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. WELLS, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspensories, of which the following, taken' in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improved suspensory, and has for its lobject the production of a simple and effective device which renders the desired support and can be worn with greater convenience than others previously constructed; and to this end it consists, essentially, in a body part or pouch of suitable size and form, a waiststrap,a legstrap, a loop secured to the posterior portion of the'pouch in order to allow of the sliding of the leg-strap during the movement of the wearer, and an apron or cover for said loop for preventing the pinching or drawing of the adjacent parts of the body.

In describing my invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in all the views. l

The main body or `pouch d of the suspensory is formed of suitable material, which is preferably exceedingly light and sufficiently strong to give the desired support.

b represents'the waist strap or band, which may be secured to the body part a in any desired manner, and is here illustrated as having one extremity secured to the upper band ar of the pouch and the other extremity as removably secured to a buckle c, secured upon said upper band a. The leg-strap d is for the purpose of supporting the posterior part of the pouch and holding it backward in its desired position. .This strap d is rendered adjustable by having one extremity secured by a buckle d to the upper band a of the pouch a.. Two loops d2 and d3, which pass-around the wearers limbs, are formed in the strap d by passing the central portion thereof through a loop e, secured at the posterior portion of the supportingpouch.

When the wearer moves his limbs, it will be understood that the strap d will move through the loop e. menthas occasioned dissatisfaction with these suspensoris, since the adjacent tend er parts of the body or the hair thereon were frcquently caught by said moving strap and drawn or pinched by the loop e, causing pain to the wearer. lIn order to obviate this disadvantage I provide around the loop e the protecting-apron f, which may be of suitable size and construction so as .to project from said loop and prevent the same lying against the body of the wearer. This protectingapron f may consist of a straight piece of cloth or other material turned around in the desired form, so as to bell out or flare from the central portion toward the-edges thereof or it may be formed of a piece cut in the desired shape and then provided with an opening through which said loop e projects, It will, however, be readily understood that as the apron f projects beyond and partially covers the loop e any catching of the adjacent parts ofthe body by said loop will be absolutely prevented. This feature removes the only disadvantage to the use of. these suspensories. Moreover, the apron f but slightly increases the cost of manufacture, since it can be produced at a slight expense and the same stitching which secures the loop e to the pouch may, if desired, be used to secure the apron fthereto. It will be also understood that I do not limit myself to the construction of the apron f.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with a suspensory-pouch, of a loop e, secured to said pouch, a pouchsupporting strap supported by said loop e, and a protecting-apron f, substantially as and for the purpose described.
