Description

(NO N. WISE & A. 0. PETER$EN FOLDING TABLE.
Patented Oct. 8, 1889.
wifgc sscs UNITED STATES PATENT NATHANIEL USE AND ALBON CHASE PETERSEN, OF ARCADIA, LOUISIANA.
FOLDING TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,316, dated October 8, 1889.
Application filed June 28, 1889. Serial No. 315,854. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that we, NATHANIEL WISE and ALBON GnAsE PETERSEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Arcadia, in the par= ish of Bienville and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Folding Table, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in folding ironing-tables; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of ourimprovcd table, showing it arranged for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it folded. Fig. 8 is a side elevation in a folded position.
The table-top A may be of any desired size and is of the usual form. It is provided at one end with the transverse compartment B, which serves as an iron-rest and in which a drawer O is mounted. On its under side near its larger end the table-top is provided with the transverse cleat D, to the ends of which we pivot the legs EE, as shown. The said legs are connected by the rounds F, and on the said rounds we pivot the braces G G, which extend therefrom, crossing each other at an intermediate point of their length and having their outer ends pivotally mounted on the rounds H, extending between the legs I I, as shown. The braces are provided with longitudinal slots J, and with the notches K in their lower edges between their upper pivotpoints and slots, and a securing-bolt L is mounted in the said slots. T
In practice the table is set up for use in the position shown in Fig. l, with the upper ends of the legs I I bearing against, but not connected with, the under side of the table top, and the securing-bolt passing through the slots of the two braces. The bolt being thus secured will effectually hold the braces together to prevent thelegs spreading apart and so lowering the table. When it is desired to fold the table and set to one side, the securin bolt is loosened and the legs then swung into position indicated in Fig. 2, the bolt Lriding in the slots, with the notches of the braces engaging the rounds between the lower ends of the legs. The table will thus be folded into 5 o a very compact form, so that it can be moved to one side and occupy but little room.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that we have provided a table which is strong and durable, is composed of few parts,
table-top, the crossed braces between the said 6 5 legs provided with longitudinal slots, and tho securing-bolt mounted in the slots of the braces, as set forth.
2. The combinatiomwith the tabletop, of
the legs E, pivoted to the under surface thereof, and the upper and lower leg-connecting rungs F, the legs 1, adapted to bear against and disconnected from the under side of said top, and connected by the upper and lower their upper ends pivoted to the upper rungs F and H, and their lower ends to the lower rungs F and H, and provided with longitudinal slots J, and notches K between their upper rungs H, of the diagonal braces G, having pivot and slots andadapted when the legs are folded upon the table to receive the two lower rungs, and the set bolt L, mounted in the slots, substantially as specified.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own We have hereto affixed our signatures 8 5 in presence of two witnesses.
NATHANIEL WISE. ALBON CHASE PETERSEN.
