. UNITED STATES 1 PATENT OF ICE,
ANATOLE TABOUR,;OF PARIS, FRANCE.
APPARATUS FOR DELIVERING CARDS, C|RCULARS, OR OTHER LIKE MATTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,045, dated August 2'7, 1889.
Application filed May 23, 1889. Serial No. 311,823- (No model.) Patented in France April 13, 1889, No. 184,319
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, ANATOLE TABOUR, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Delivering Cards, Circulars, Papers, and other Like Matter, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in France, dated April 13, 1889, No. 184,319 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figures 1 and 2 are respectively front and rear elevations of the apparatus. Figs. 3 and 4 are sections taken respectively on lines mac and y y of Figs. 1 and 3; and Fig. 5 is a detailed view of the distributing or delivery wheel, showing the arrangement of one set of pins thereon,
This invention relates to apparatus for delivering business or other cards, advertisements, circulars, newspapers, &c., from a receptacle; and it consists in structural features and combinations of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully described, and set forth in the claims.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple means for conveniently delivering business or other cards, or circulars, or newspapers, or other like matter, from a suitable receptacle.
In the drawings, B is a rectangular box of any desired dimensions. In the bottom I) of the box is formed a transverse slot 1) for the passage of the cards, and a longitudinal slot b for the delivery-wheel to work in. The lid or cover B of the box B fits loosely into the same, and rests upon cleats 12 said lid being secured to the box by hooks and eyes I).
S is a coiled spring, one end of which is secured to the lid, orsaid end is, as shown in thedrawings, passed through the lid, and then bent into a loop, so as to form a handle for said lid. The other end of the spring S is secured to a follower F, that fits the interior of the box loosely.
W is the delivery-wheel that has projecting from its periphery a series of pins P and P, inclined in reverse directions, the plane of inclination of the pins being tangents of a circle of smaller diameter than the wheel, as shown in Fig. 5, the pins P acting as picker-pins, while the pins P act as carrier-pins and also as guards to prevent the pins P from penetrating too farinto or through the material. The wheel W has its bearings in hangers 13*, secured to the underside of the box B, and to prevent injury to the pins or to a person by contact with such pins I provide aguard-plate G, that, together with the box, incloses orprotects a little more than one-half of the periphery of the wheel, as shown.
In front of the wheel W, I apply a guard and guide-finger G, of substantially U shape, the lower cross-bar g thereof extending across the face of the wheel W, in front of the edge of the guard G, thus forming a slot 8 for the cards or other matter to pass out. The guard and guide G is preferably made more or less elastic. This elasticity should, however, be greater at or toward its lower end, where the matter delivered by the wheel is pulled out, than at its upper end, and to impart increased rigidity to the guard-finger at that end I employ springs g, the ends of which bear upon the vertical arms of said guardfinger.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: The matter to be delivered-say, for instance, business-cardsbeing placed into the box B below the follower, and the lid made fast, a half-turn is given to the wheel W by hand, which may be readily done, there being sufficient space for that purpose between the vertical arms of the guard-finger G. This will bring the lowermost card into position, with its foremost edge projecting through slot 3. If, now, the card be pulled out, the wheel W will be revolved, and the next succeeding card in the box willfollow the card being pulled out, so that the foremost edge of the second card will project through the slot 8 after the removal of the first card, the operation thus becoming automatic.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
with pins projecting from its periphery and operating upon the lowermost sheet or card in the holder to propel the same to or through the delivery-slot, substantially as and for the,
purposes specified.
2. In an apparatus such as described, the combination, with a holder having a deliveryslot in its bottom, and a spring-actuated follower operating to hold the matter to be de livered in proper position, of a delivery-wheel having pins projecting from its periphery and operating through the bottom of the box upon the lowermost sheet or card in the holder, a guard for and encompassing said wheel, and arranged to form a deliveryslot through which the matter to be delivered is removed, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
3. The combination, with the box B, having slots 1) b in its bottom, and the springactuated follower F, of the wheel WV, having pins P and P projecting from its periphery in reverse directions, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
4. The combination, with the box B, having slots 1) b in its bottom, and the springactuated follower F, of the delivery-Wheel W, the guard G, and the elastic U-shaped guard G, arranged relatively to each other, as to form a slot 8 between their outer ends, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
5. In an apparatus of the class described, a delivery-Wheel WV, having pins projecting from its periphery in reverse directions, with their points in proximity to each other, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
6. .In an apparatus, of the class described, a delivery-wheel having pins projecting from its periphery in reverse directions and on lines tangential to a circle of smaller diameter than that of the wheel, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of May, 1889.
ANATOLE TABOUR.
