-Be it known'that I, WM. B. Anne Arundel county, inthe State-.of Maryland, have invented certain' new and useful improvements in machines vfor expelling iiies from tables; and I hereby declare that the following is atrue and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to they accompanying drawings,fand to the letters ofreference marked thereon.

y The nature of myl invention consists in the vuse of certaindevices pnt in motion by clockwork for 'expelling flies from a common-size family dining-table', inthe manner hereinafter described.

Ittwill be' observed that the fans K are so place'dfthat in revolving around the axes of motionl their edges, and not their broad sides, are presented to the air, and thus meet with the least'po'ssible resistance. Owing to this movement, the fans can be constructed ofthe lightestjmarterial,I thin dark paper being,r pref- -The advantage which I claim for my machine consists notv singly in expelling iiies fromthe'ta'ble during meals, but also tirom `the length of time which it runs after being' `wound up) in its'utility in protecting children when 'asleep and the sick when confined to theirbeds from .the annoyance vof flies and mosquitoes-aan ofce that otherwise would have to be performed by the constant assiduity of a nurse.

The machine runs about an hourand a half'.
