Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES MORRILL, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BIT-BRACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,899, dated December 10, 1861.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES MOERILL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Securing Bits in their Braces and Angers in their Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a View of the lower end of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing a bit in its place. Fig. 3 is an edge view.
Fig. 4 is a cut section showing a bit in its place. Fig. 5 is a cut section showing a bit entering.
A is a bit-head, to which is secured cam B by pin C. The cam B is moved into the recess in the shank of the bit by spring I) which is securely held by screw E. l
Operation: Insert the shank of the bit in the aperture of the head of the brace, thus removing the cam B. Cam Bis then brought back to its former position byspring D. The shape of the cam B is such that the bit caunot be removed without turning cam B by pressing upon the lever or projection ot' the same, as Shown in Fig. 5.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bit-brace head A and cam B, in combination with the spring D, as described, for the purposes specied.
CHAS. MORRILL.
