a LEWIS ROSS BUDD, OF OSKALOOSA, IOVA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PERCUSSION-CAP HOLDERS FOR PRIMING FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Leiters Patrnt No. ;%,557. dated May 19, 156
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS Ross BUDD, of the town of Oskaloosa, Mahaska county, State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Revolving PercussiouOap Setter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a revolving and scalloped or slatted cap-setter revolving between circular side plates, one plate stationary, and the other revolving with the setter.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The object of my invention is to have a number of percussion-caps placed in a safe setter, to prevent the loss of caps, and to give speed and certainty in setting them on a nipple of a gun.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the revolving percussion-cap setter, made of any material most suitable, and intended to be neat and light, so as to be easily carried in a coat or vest pocket. Fig. 2 is an end view.
A represents a handle, the ends of which are attached to the center of the cap-setter by a screw-bolt, B. A rivet, G, fastens one side of the handle to one of the circularside plates, D, to hold the plate D stationary with the handle, while the corresponding opposite side, E, revolves independently on the bolt B.
Between the side plates,D and E,is located an elastic circular cap-setter, G, which is fastened permanently to the revolving side plate E, so as to revolve with it. The periphery of this cap-setter is slatted or scalloped, and has a round aperture, H, at the bottom of each slat or scallop the size of a percussion-cap, in which the cap is placed and held.
lVhen the operator presses the cap upon the nipple of a gun, he draws the setter G toward him, and the cap is released through the slat. The operator then gives a slight movement with his finger to the side plate E, and the cap-setter Gbrings another cap in front of the scallop J of the side plate D, and the cap is then readyto be pressed upon the nipple, thus making the operation very quick, easy, and simple.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is-
A revolving capsetter arranged and operating as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
