Description

(N0 Modem jNo.- 406.217.
Patented July 2, 1889.
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEY N. PETERS, Plwmuum n her. WashlnglDrl. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- GIDEON ISLEY, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO EDl/VIN TERRY, OF BROOKLYN, AND LEO WVORMSER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OPERA-GLASS HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 406,217, dated July 2, 1889.
Application filed February 5, 1889. Serial No- 298,'713. (N model.) v
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GIDEON ISLEY, ofJersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved OperaGlass Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 shows the holder or handle detached and closed. Fig. 2 shows the holder applied to the glass and extended for use. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the holder,
1 5 and Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken on line was of Fig. 3.
My invention relates to the construction of the lower section or handle A of the holder. This is composed of the outer casing a, of
hard rubber, celluloid, metal, leather, or other suitable material, the intermediate tube 1), of metal, and the inner tube 0, also of metal. The tube 1) is extended at the lower end to form the ornamental head (Z. The tube 0 is open at both ends, is secured in the tube 1), and is formed with a slot 6 to form a way for the pin f of the sliding tube or section B. The slot e joins a lateral slot 6', which forms a shoulder e to support the pin f,when turned into said lateral slot to lock the section B when drawn out for use to prevent closing by the weight of the opera-glasses C. The lateral slot e may, if desired, terminate in a short vertical slot 6 to receive the pin f, to more effectually lockthe upper section B. 5 The tube 1) confines the tube 0, particularly at the edge formed by the slots 6 6 6 so that the pin or stud f, short as it must necessarily I be, cannot be turned out of place. The upper end of the tube 0 is finished by the orna- 4o mental ring h,which overlaps and finishes the upper end of the outer tube a. The section B slides in the tube 0, and in said section is held the clamp D by the spring'D. This clamp acts in conjunction with the jaw D secured to the section B for fastening the holder to cross-piece O of the opera-glass. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The handle A, having the continuous intermediate tube 6 and the inner tube 0, formed with slot e e,in combination with the sliding section B, having stud f, substantially as described. 5 5
2. The handle A, having the outer ornamental tube a, intermediate continuous tube Z), extended at d, and the inner tube 0, slotted ate 6, in combination with the sliding section B, having stud f, substantially as de 60 scribed.
