IMPROVED FOLDING CHAIR.'v
Speciiicaton forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,526, dated November 3, 1863.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT D. WHITMORE, ot' Housatonic, in the county of Berkshire,
' State of Massachusetts, have invented a new seat, and in this particular differing from all other chairs known to the inventor. To the seat a c and this frame b b the legs and posts of the chair are attached by pegs, bolts, or screws, and turn on them as pivots. The chair-back may be ot`.a1iy style agreeable to the builder.
l To support the front ot' the chair when open,
two braces,1c c, are attached to the back-posts below the seat, and extending to and locking into a metallic guide or groove, d d, which is secured to the 'sea-t. A button or latch, e, is attached to the guide or seat frame, and, droppingdown back ot' `the hook ot' the brace, holds the chair spread, and loses its hold when inverted and allows the chair to close. These braces may be attached to the front legs or the posts above the seat, or to the seat itself, and act 'upon the guide on the back.
What I claim as my inventiomand desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the frame b b with the legs and rounds, and the frame a c, the braces c c, the guide d, and latch c, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
