G. M. LINDSAY.
SHEET MUSIC BINDER.
No. 405,264. Patented June 18, 1889. v
3 mnmuml which they are suspended.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. LINDSAY, OF MANKATO, MINNESOTA.
SHEET-MUSIC BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,264, dated June 18, 1889.
I Application filed October 6, 1888. $erial No. 287,361. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES M. LINDSAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mankato, in'the county of Blue Earth and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Music Binders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description-of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to provide a music-binder which may conveniently contain a number of sheets of music and be readily hung upon a floor or wall rack, so that each book of music may be quickly obtained without handling the others.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing the binder open; Fig. 2, a similar View showing it closed; Figs. 3 and 4, similar views of two .racks on which the bound sheets may be hung; Fig. 5, detail views of the clamps.
In the drawings, A B represent the covers of my binder, and O D the clamps which hold them together.
O C are hinged by the end hooks c c, on which the sheets of music are strung and by These hooks have shanks c c, which are placed parallel to each other and made fast to the cover A, while the hooks c 0 project beyond and below the edge of said cover, so that the music-sheets E may be hung thereon. The sheets E are provided with a middle folded piece of stiffening-paper pasted over one edge, and through this are made the holes 6 6, through which pass the hooks c c. When a sufficient number of sheets for one book have been placed on the hooks c c, the latter are passed through the holes I) b of the cover 13. The covers being thus hinged together, may be closed over the sheets of music when they are ready to be clamped. For this purpose I use the fastening-clamp D, consisting of the wire d, having the parallel end rings (1' d, which turn in holes a a of the cover A, as well as in the open slots b b of the cover 13. This'brings the part (Z of the clamp on top of the cover 13.
Then the music-sheets E have been thus securely clamped together, the hinge-hooks c 0 may be readily passed over the rods F on a floor-rack G or on a wall-rack H, so that each book ofmusic may be taken down separately without handling the others.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
' In music-binders, the clamp C, having hooks c and shanks c, and the clamp D, consisting of a Wire d, having two parallel end rings cl (1, in combination with the cover A, having holes a, and the cover B, having holes b b and open slots 1) Z), whereby music-sheets may be conveniently bound together and hung on racks, as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES M. LINDSAY.
