( M tidal.)
H. M'ACHTANZ. CIGAR HOLDER.
No. 404,644. Patented June 4, 1889.
wilnweav N, PETERS. Phnto-Ulhographer, Washingwn. nc
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- HEINRICH MAOHTANZ, OF HANAU, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
CIGAR-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,644, dated June 4, 1889.
Application filed March 23, 1888. Serial ITO-268,313. (ModeL) Patented in England December 19, 1887, No. 17,443, and in Germany January 6, 1888, No. 42,918.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH MACHTANZ, manufacturer, of Hanau, in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented a new and useful Improved Oigar-l lolder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, no patents being obtained by. me anywhere for this invention, save in Germany, No. 42,918, dated January 6, 1888, and Great Britain, No. 17,443, dated December 19, 1887.
This invention relates to a small cigar-holder for holding and smoking cigars of any size and thickness, which holder is not thicker than a lead-pencil.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the holder. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same with the cap screwed up. Figs. 3 t0 6 show details of the new cigarholder. Fig. 3 is a view showing the cap 0 screwed down. Fig. 4 shows a view taken rectangularly to Fig. 3, cap d being shown in section. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 6 is a horizontal section on line an 00, Fig. 5.
The new cigar-holder is of small dimensions. It occupies very little space, and can therefore be very comfortably put in the waistcoat or other pocket, while being an economy to every smoker of cigars, because the cigars can be smoked down to the very end.
The holder consists of a tube CL, which at its one end is connected with the pipe-tip a and at itsother end is provided with a metal box b. The box I) is provided with a screw-thread g, over which slides the cap d, which cap is provided with a nut screw-thread. The screwthread of the box I) is entirely covered by that of the cap d. From the metal box the tube 0 projects, the outer end ofwhich is formed as a knife and is provided with an opening 0',
communicating with the bore of tube a and of the pipe-tip a.
The box b on the end of the tube a is stationary, and the cap dis adapted to have a spiral movement on said box by reason of an- When in 'use, the cap dis back in the position shown in Fig. 1,and the sharpened end of the holder is forced into the cigar until the opening 0 is covered, and then the smoke passes through the opening 0 and the tube a to the mouth. -When not in use, the cap (:1 is advanced, as described, to cover the point, and the holder may thus be carried in the pocket without injury thereto.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A cigar-h older consisting of a sm oke-tube, a holdingpoint on said tube provided with an opening leading to the interior of the tube, and a movable cap for covering said point when the holder is not in use, substantially as described.
2. A cigar-holder consisting of a smoke-tube, a holding-point, a box on said tube having threads on its periphery, and a covering-cap surrounding said box and in engagement with the threads thereof, substantiallyas described.
I11 witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
HEINRICH MACHTAN Z.
