WILLIAM W. STEVENS, OF lPORTLAND, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO NATHANIEL y P. RICHARDSON 8v CO., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT |N COAL-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 40,449, dated October 27, 1863.
To all whom it may sondern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. STEVENS, of the city of Portland, county of Cumberland, and State of Maine, have invented an Improvenient in Coal-Sitters for the purpose of sifting ashes from coal; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of t-he same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and figures of reference thereon. v
Of the said representation, Figure 1 represents the cover of the sifter. Fig. 2 represents the body of the sifter. Fig. 3 represents the ring used ou the top of any :round body. Fig. 4 represents the sifter as it appears when placed on the top of a barrel and ready for use.
I do not claim a patent on any part of the sifter, nor on the reciprocating rotary or the rocking motion distinct of themselves, as they have been patented before.
What I do claim as my invention',and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
The combination of the two motions, reciproeating rotary and rocking motion, as applied to a coalsifter, the rst motion being obtained by moving the handles A A from left to right or right to left, the second motion by turning the handles A A upand down, giving the rocking motion. l
