UNITED STATES- PATENT OEEICE.
ANTON H. FRITSCH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO VALENTIN MUELLER, OF SAME PLACE.
H AT
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,934, dated May 28, 1889.
Application filed September l2, 1887. Serial No. 249,528. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTON H. FRITsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hats, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a tasteful, light, and durable hat, which will allow of the air circulating in the same while in wear. The same consists in a hat having its crown made in sections which are united at their'meeting edges and composed of several layers, each layer being of a different material, united together and provided with air-holes containing the thread by means of which the several layers are united, all of which as hereinafter will be more fully described.
In the drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hat; Fig. 2, an under side view of the same; Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section; Figs. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,9, and l0, details readily understood Without description. Fig. ll is a modification representing a section of the crown when made of more than two sections.
A is the brim of a hat, B the side crown, and C the tip. The side crown, B, and the tip, as shown in the drawings by Figs. l, 2, 3, 4, 6, and l0, are made each in a single section, thus constituting the crown proper of the hat; but the crown may consist of more than two sections, thus dispensing with the special section of the tip C. Such a section is shown by Fig. 1l. Each of these sections is composed of several layers united together and provided with permanent apertures e. I compose each ofsaid sect-ions, preferably, of four layers, to wit: the exterior layer, ct, which may be silk, cashmere, or any other suitable material; d, the interior or lining, and b', and c the middle ones, being inclosed between said layers a and d. The layer b preferably will be pressed felt or any other suitable material capable of retaining apertures produced in the same by any piercing-instrument. c will be millinet or any similar loosely-woven fabric of a trailsparent nature. lis the thread uniting said different layers and not filling upentirely the apertures e said sections are provided with. Thus it is obvious eac-h section consisting of the said layers is provided with permanent air-holes 0 containing the thread by means of which the several layers are united. The seams produced inside of the crown by uniting the meeting edges are covered up with tape linings E and F. The crown so formed will be ready for being blocked and otherwise finished in providing the same with a suitable brim, A, sweat-band D, and binding G.
Thus I am enabled to make a Ventilatinghat of cloth of any size and color, as may be desired.
I am aware that cloth hats consisting of several layers of different material stitched together are not new.
XVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A hat havingits crown made in sections,
said sections being united at their meeting
