FOLDING BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 403,775, dated May 21, 1889. Application filed December 1, 1888- Serial No. 292,372. (No model.)

To all whom it Hwy concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES H. PILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements ll Folding Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The invention relates to a folding bracket.

It has for its object to provide a bracket which is especially designed for supporting Wash-basins over a bath-tub, and which shall be of such construction as to permit the basin supported thereby to be tilted to discharge it of its contents; furthermore, to produce a bracket which may be readily swung around against the wall to be out of the way when not in use, and, finally, to produce a bracket which shall be simple in construction, comparatively inexpensive of manufacture, and exceedingly efficient for the purpose for which it is designed.

With these objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bracket, showing it secured to the wall in a position above and over a bath-tub. Fig. 2

is a similar View showing the bracket inthe position. it assumes when not in use; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the sleeve of the bracket or supporting-arm and the basinsupporting-rod, taken through linex0c,Fig. 1.

In the accompanying drawings, A designates a support, (shown in this instance as a wall,) to which the supporting-arm B is hinged, as shown at C, in any well-known or desired manner to permit of it. being swung around in the position shown in Fig. 2.

The supporting-arm is provided at its forward end with a sleeve, D, provided with an interior groove, (1, which is more clearly illustrated in Fig. 3.

E designates the basin-supporting rod having a rotary engagement in the sleeve, and provided with a rib or feather, e, which engages the groove of the sleeve and locks the said arm in the position shown in Fig. 1. The basin is suitably secured to the supporting-rod, as, for instance, by a clamp, F, of any well known or desired construction, but which is illustrated in the present instance as a spring-clamp for embracing the usual basesupporting bead or flange, g, of the basin G.

It will be seen that to empty the contents of the basin into the bath-tub, after the occupant of the tub has bathed his face, it is only necessary to turn the supporting rod a quarter of a revolution, and to prevent it rotating beyond this point a pin, H, is passed transversely through its rear end.

The operation is as follows: After the basin has been used for the purpose hereinbefore stated, the supporting-rod is slid forward or rearward to release the feather thereon from engagement with the sleeve, and the rod then allowed to turn in either direction until it is arrested by the pin H engaging the supporting-arm B. WVhile the basin is in this position the supporting-arm is swung around against the wall in the position shown in Fig. 2, and in which position the entire device is out of the way. When it is desired to use the basin, the de- Vice is swung around in the position shown in Fig. 1, the feather upon the supportingrod being made to engage the groove of the sleeve, and the basin may be then removed for the purpose of filling it.
