Description

(ModeL) I H. S. JANKE. FOLDED PAPER BUCKET.
No. 403,594. Patented May 21, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY S. .IANKE, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
FOLDED PAPER BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,594, dated May 21, 1889.
Application filed April 28, 1888. Serial No. 272,174. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. J ANKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folded Paper Buckets, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of the invention consists in the details of combination and construction, substantially as illustrated in the drawings, hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 illustrates a piece of paper properly cut for forming my newly invented bucket. Fig. 2 represents the same as partly folded. Figs. 3 and 4 are diiferent views of the same bucket when finished.
A piece of suitably-strong paper is to be cut, of the form represented in Fig. 1. Then the parts A, a b, B, c d, 0, g f, B, m e, O, D, i h, E, and h are separated by creasing the paper through the intervening lines. The paper is first folded into the form illustrated in Fig. 2, and finally into the form represented in Figs. 3 and 4, and finished by putting in the bail Q. It will be observed that the part 'i, folding down against the side C, forms a hinge for the lid below the upper edge of the bucket. The flap D is folded down upon the inside of the side 0, and secured with the end of the bail 0; but on account of the elasticity of this flap its lower edge will spring out a little from the side 0, and so bring the projection 7' into the semicircular notch s of the top E. The lower edges of the flap D on either side of said projection will then stand over the top E,a little inside of the edge, and, acting as a latch, hold the top down. This flap D may be pushed out of the way of the top E, and so leave the top free to be opened. The parts h and h, folding at right angles to the lid E, prevent it from warping. The parts 6 m and a Z), being folded upon the side 0, are secured by one end of the bucket-bail O, and the parts 0 d and g f, being folded upon the side 0', are secured by the other end of the bail O.
The whole device is to be as illustrated in the drawings.
This bucket is to be used as buckets of its kind usually are, and, if the paper be rendered Water-proof, may be used to carry small amounts of fluid.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a paper bucket formed of the parts A, a b, B, c d, C, gf, B, m e, O D, 2' h, E, and h, and folded with the parts a Z) and e m upon the side 0, the parts a d and g f upon the side 0, the partE braced by the parts It and h to form a lid hinged by the part '2, so as to be below the upper edge of the bucket and latched by the flap D of the bail O, fastened in opposite sides of the bucket and securing the same, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
, HENRY S. J ANKE.
