UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KONRAD GAMPER, OF SIELOE, NEAR SOSNOWICE, AND RUDOLF FARKACZ, OF WARSAW, RUSSIA.
BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,343, dated May 14, 1889.
Application filed November 30, 1888. Serial No. 292,317. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, KONRAD GAMPER, a subject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at Sielce, near Sosnowice, Russia, and RUDOLF FARKAOZ, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at \Varsaw, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tubular Boilers, of which the following is a speciflcation.
This invention relates to tubular boilers, into each of the water-tubes of which a firetube is inserted in such manner that the water-space is between the internal surfaces of the outer water-tubes and the external surfaces of the inner fire-tubes. The heatinggases from the furnace thus act upon the said Water-tubes from without and upon the said fire-tubes from within. The water and the fire or flame tubes are each separately removable or withdrawable, the connections between the separate pipes being effected through water circulating chambers, into which the tube ends are fastened or secured by collars, bands, flanges, screws, or in any other convenient 0r suitable manner.
In order that our invention may be readily understood, we will fully describe the same by reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View, and Fig. 2 a transverse sectional View, of a double tubular boiler constructed accord ing to our invention. Fig. 3 shows on a larger scale than the previous figures and in vertical longitudinal section the jointing of the water and fire tubes and water-oirculatin g chambers, and Fig. 4 shows a modified form of bearing or sliding surface, as hereinafter described.
a are the water-tubes; b, the internal firetubes; 0, the water-space between the tubes at and b; d, the water circulating or connecting chambers, 6 being the heating-fines.
f are spherical zone-shaped surfaces formed on the separate parts of the water-circulating chambers d.
g is an annular packing-ring, being so shaped as to receive the spherical zone-shaped surfaces f, before referred to.
In Fig. 3 the jointing and packing of the chambers cl, one with another, is shown, they being held together by means of bolts h, and a packing or joint is thus obtained which will remain intact and at the same time allow of any slight motion of the said chambers d,
6, preferably secured by bolts a, and the flretubes are preferably secured in the outer side openings by means of threaded collars b, as shown clearly.
In some cases, instead of the surfaces f of the water-circulating chambers d being of spherical-zone form, as shown in Fig. 3, the said surfaces may be shaped, as shown at Fig. 4, of cylindrical formation, and Where found desirable several fire-tubes, instead of only one, as shown, may be introduced into each water-tube.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of our said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, We declare that what we claim is A tubular boiler comprising the internal firetubes, the external inclosing water-tubes, and the separate water-circulatin g chambers, each pair of fire and water tubes having a pair of separate chambers secured to their opposite ends, the fire tubes extending completely through the chambers and removably secured to the same, the water-tubes opening into the front sides of the chambers and removably secured thereto, each of said chambers being formed integral and having openings in its top and bottom formed by flanges, said chambers being movably secured together with their upper and lower openings registering, and packing-rings interposed between the adjoining edges of said flanges, as set forth.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
