I N PETERS. ma-Lithognphsr. Washington D.C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. STUART, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
A NNUNClATOR-DROP.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 402,043, dated April 23 1889.
\ Application filed May 22, 1888. Serial No. 274,673. (No model.)
To all 1071,0112, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN M. STUART, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Annunciator-Dro i s, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to construct an 'annunciator-drop.
In accordance with this invention, two bent arms or pieces are attached one to each end of a core, upon which a coil is wound, or may be formed integral with it, the said bent arms extending toward each other and forming the pole-pieces of the electro-magnetic device. The armature is attached to a flat spring secured to a post "or frame, to which post or frame the said electro-magnetic deviceis also attached. The target or disk is pivoted to the said post or frame, it having on its rear side a projection which engages, when lifted, the retracted armature, but which is released when the armature is attracted.
Figure 1 shows in front elevation the annunciator-drop embodying this invention, the target or disk being shown in dotted lines; and Fig. 2, a top view of the annunciator-drop shown in Fig. 1.
The device is attached to a post or frame, cl, preferably by the same fastening employed to attach one of the bent pieces to the core. The armature e is attached to a flat spring, e, secured to the said post or frame 01, said armature being rectangular in shape and adapted to make contact with both the pole-pieces c c. The target or disk f is pivoted to the said post or frame (I, it having on its rear side a projection, f. \Vhen the armature e is retracted and the target or disk lifted, the projection f bears upon the upper side of the said armature; but when the armature is attracted the said target or disk will be released and fall by gravity in the usual manner.
The device herein described is very cheap to manufacture, is durable and powerful, it presenting large-surfaced pole-pieces for the armature.
I claim- The annunciator drop herein described, comprising the core a, coil a, metallic pieces I) b, bent to present large fiat-surfaced polepieces 0 c, the armature 6, attached to a spring, e, the target or disk f, pivoted to move in a plane parallel with the fiat-surfaced pole-pieces, and the support (1, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN M. STUART.
