Description

UNITED STATES` PATENT OEEcE.,
EDWARD P. BACON, OE MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SUSPENSION-RACK FOR COUPON-TICKETS, &O.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 40,088, dated September 29, 1863.
To @ZZ whom it 11m/y concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. BACON, of the city of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful case or rack for coupon-tickets or other articles to which it may be adapted and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement and combination of horizontal bands or supports, to which tickets or other articles may be attached, or from which they may be suspended, with suitable perpendicular standards or supports, said horizontal bands or supports being so placed and adjusted upon the perpendicular supports as to project in advance one of another, consecutively, from top to bottom, so that any portion of the several packages of tickets or other articleswhich may be attached to or suspended from them not necessary to have exposed to view may fall in the rear ot' those attached or suspended below-*,without resti n g one upon another.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I describe its construction and operation when applied to horizontal bands xed to upright standards, with consecutive projections upon the latter,as follows:
Figure l in the accompanying drawings is a perspective view, Fig. 2 a sectional view, Fig. 3 a side view, of one ot' the standards.,
a a. represents one of the horizontal bands attached to the upright standards b b, the projections d d on the latter at the several points of intersection corresponding in depth to the thickness of the several packages of tickets or other articles for which it is designed. The compartments c o thus formed may be of whatever size that portion of the tickets or other articles which it may be desired to have exposed to view may be. Hooks hh or other means of suspension or attachment are xed to the bands a, c, from which the several packages of tickets or other articles may be suspended or to which they may be attached, any portion of the same not necessary to have exposed to view falling behind the bands below that to which they are attached, the several .bands projecting in ad- When used Jfor coupon tickets, it may be constructed with sufficient space below the lowest band to admit of the suspension of the longest package of tickets therefrom, and the several compartments c c may correspond in size with that of the stubs of the tickets for which they are designed. The several packages of tickets may then be arranged alphabetically or in any other order that may be desired, and the destination, route, number of form, and, ii' consecutively numbered, the lowest consecutive number on hand ofthe tickets of which the respective packages severally consist will be exposed `to view, so that the position of any particularpackage may be instantly determined and any number desired for use instantly obtained, and also the lowest consecutive numbers on hand of the respective forms may be readily drawn oft when desired for the purpose of making up accounts of sales without removing or handling the tickets. By means ot' the several bands from which the tickets are suspended, projecting in advance one of another, the several packages are kept, free from one another, and any pressure from the respective bands upon the tickets suspended above them prevented, thereby rendering the removal from the case of any ticket desired for use easy and expeditious.v
Vhat l claim as `myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A case or rack for coupon-tickets or other articles to which it may be adapted, provided with horizontal bands or supports et c, attached to upright standards b b, with projections d d on the latter at the several points of intersection, hooks or other means of suspension being affixed to the horizontal bands, from which tickets or other articles may be suspended, when constructed in this or any other manner substantially the same, for the purposes set forth.
