Description

(No Model.)
G. F. BROTT'.
CLAMP. No. 400,296. Patented Mar.26, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
lEORGE F. BRCTT, OF WVASI-IINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 400,296, dated March 26, 1889.
Application filed November 30, 1888. Serial N0.292,274. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. BROTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clamping devices for securing two or more wires together, and has for its object the provision of a simple, cheap, and durable article of the class named, whereby the longitudinal and transverse wires comprised in Wire mattresses, bed-springs, fences, gates, &c., may be quickly and firmly secured together.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figures 1 to 7, inclusive, illnstrate different forms of my invention.
In said drawings similar figures of reference denote similar parts.
In carrying out my invention I employ a plate, 1, which may be of any desired configuration of outline and cut or stamped from any suitable materialas, for instance, iron in its various forms, brass, copper, bronze, &c. and provide said plate with projections 2, so arranged as to be turned over the wires when the latter are in proper position, and in order to lessen the weight of the plate portions may be cut out, as at 4. I have found it expedient to form the plate with a depressed portion, 3, as I am thereby enabled to secure the separate wires together wholly upon one side of the plate after they have been placed in their proper relative positions.
By reference to Figs. 3 and 4 itwill be seen that one of the crossed wires, a, is placed in the depressions 3 of the plate, and that the remaining wire, I), is laid upon said wire a at an angle thereto and held in such position by the downwardly-bent projections 2.
.Fig. 5 illustrates the plate and its projec- Lions 2 as formed of-i. a, cut or stamped froma single sheet of m etal, while Figs. 6 and 7 show the body of the plate 1 as formed of cast metal, having pieces of wire cast therein and projecting therefrom.
Having thus d escribed my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent A clamp for securing crossed wires together by clasping only one of them, consisting of a plate provided on its rear side with projections for clasping around the .rear wire on both sides of the crossing-point of the wires, and having a groove also in its rear side, for the reception of the front wire on both sides of said crossing point, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE F. BROT".
