TOOL FOR TRIMMING HEELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,625, dated March 12, 1889.
Application filed March 13, 1886, Serial No. 195,165- (NO model.)

Be it known that I, OSCAR L. NOBLE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts. have invented an Improved Tool for Heellrimining, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part hereof, in Which Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a lengthwise section, of one of my tools.
A represents the shaft of the heel-trimming machine; B, the tread-rest, O re 'n'esenting the angle to receive the corner of the top lift; D, the cutter; E, the rand-lip of the cutter; F, the rand-guide; G, the counter-guard, and H the clamp-screw.
My invention consists in the combination of the counter'guard G and the rand-guide F with cutter D, the guard G limiting the depth of cut of that part of cutter D which trims the rand and heel seat of the heel.
in practicel prefer to make the rand-guide F and guard G separate, as thereby I am enabled to utilize the sleeve of part F as a journal for the part G, in order that the part G may remain at rest when in contact with the counter of the shoe; but for some kinds of Work it is just as well to make F and G of one piece of metal.
I am aware of Beanes patent, No. 43,082, dated June 11, 186i, and disclaim all that is shown in it.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is In a heel-trimming tool, the countenguard G and rand-guide F,in combination with the cutter D, the counter-guard and the randguide being in separate pieces and the coun ter-guard being loosely mounted on its journal, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
