Description

(No Model.)
A. KEMPKEY.
v HIP REIN SUPPORT. No. 397.922. Patented Feb. 19, 1889.
UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS KEMPKEY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
HIP RElN-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 897,922, dated February 19, 1889.
Application filed December 3, 1888. Serial No. 292,554 (No model.)
To all whom it 11mg concern.-
Be it known that l AUGUSTUS KEMPKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hip Rein- Supports, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The accompanying drawing is referred to and made a part of this specification.
The drawing shows a perspective view of my invention and the manner of attaching it to the harness.
The object of my invention is to provide a support for the driving-reins attached to the harness at the junction of the hip and back straps, keeping them upon the horses back and-above his tail, preventing the reins gettingunder the horses tail in H y time or at any time, and from get-ting caught in the harness. It may be of metal or any other suit able material, and plated and ornamented to match the other trimmings ot' the harness.
I do not contine my invention to the exact shape of the support shown in the drawing; but it may be constructed of a form and shape to suit the taste and convenience of the user.
It consists of a bar, A, which has two loops, B B, formed on its under side for the passage of the hip-strap through them, space for the backstrap being left between said loops. This bar is bent upward in the middle at a, and it is also bent over upon itself at each end to form open spaces A for the reception of the reins. The ends of the said bar are bent upward, leaving a space, a, between them,
through which the reins may be passed to said open spaces A. It is easily attached to and removed from the harness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A rein-support consisting, of a bar bent up-' AUGUSTUS KEMPKEY.
