SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,760, dated February 12, 1889.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAAN TANGEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flour-Bins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in flour-bins; and it consists of the peculiar construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and particu- F 1 ing, D, through the false bottom, which con larly pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide flour-bin with an improved screen and false bottom, having means for securely holding the same in place within the bin, and to provide means for preventing endwise movement of the agitator-shaft and the escape and waste of the contents of bin through an opening formed in the inclosing-case thereof for the passage of the agitator-shaft.
In the drawings hereto annexed, which illustrate a flour-bin embodying my invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View taken through the agitator-shaft. Fig. 2 is a similar sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 1 on the line as as of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detached detail view of the bottom of the main compartment, showing the sieve or screen therein. Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of one of the supports.
Referring to the drawings, in which like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the figures, A designates the outer shell or casing of my improved flour-bin, which is constructed of wood, sheet metal, or of any other desired or preferred material. outer shell or casing is made rectangular in form or of any other preferred shape, and near its lower end it has a false bottom, B, which is arranged out of contact with the bottom of the shell or casing and divides the chamber of the bin into two compartments, B and 13 the former of which is located above the false bottom and is designed to receive the flour or other substances which are to be stored in the bin.
I will term the upper and larger compartment or chamber, B, of the bin the main chamber, and the lower smaller compartment, B of the bin the supplemental or The said auxiliary chamber, for the purpose of more readily referring to the said parts in the following description.
The false bottom B consists of two inclined sides or sections, (1, which are converged toward each other at their lower edges, and the connecting bars or strips O, which connect the lower edges of the inclined sides together. These connecting-strips are arranged at the ends of the converging sides 0 of the said false bottom, and they form or provide an openstitutes the discharge or escape opening from the main chamber or compartment 15 of the flour-bin for the contents of the latter, the upper edges of the said connecting-bars being recessed or cut awayin curved lines, as shown very clearly in Fig. 3. This escape or (lischarge opening D of the curved false bottom is covered by a screen or sieve,E, of wire-cloth or any other suitable material, which is secured to the sides and connecting-strips of the false bottom by tacks or other suitable fasienings, as will be readily seen by reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The converging sides 0 of the false bottom B are beveled at their upper edges, as at c, to bear firmly against the inner opposing sides of the vertical walls of the inclosing shell or casing A, and the outer ends of the said converging sides are notched or cut away to form edges or shoulders c, which rest on the upper edges of the bearing-plates or supports F, secured to the opposing ends of the shell or casing of the bin, and serve to support the false bottom and its sieve in the main compartment or chamber of the bin, as shown. The said supports F have their upper edges provided with inclined flanges or shoulders f, on which the ledges or shoulders c of the converging sides of the false bottom rest, so as to suspend the said false bottom very securely and firmly in place.
G represents a removable cover, which is adapted to fit over the upper end of the shell or bin and exclude dirt and foreign matter therefrom.
H designates an agitator which is arranged in the lower portion of the main compartment of the bin and immediately above the false bottom and the sieve therein. This agitator comprises a shaft, g, the hubs g, having the radial arms g and the blades g connecting the radial arms at the outer extremities thereof. The shaft g of the agitator is journaled at its inner end in a suitable bearinggf", of metal that is affixed to one of the bearingplates or supports ll, and the otherend of the i said shaftis extended through a suitable opcning in one of the end walls of inclosing case or shell "A, and has a crank, h, thereon, by which the shaft can be very easily and conveniently turned or rotated by hand when it is desired to discharge a portion of the contents of the bin. The hubs g of the agitator are rigidly affixed to the rotary shaft by any suitable means, and they are located near the ends of the said shaft, and the radial arms g of the hubs are formed integral therewith and curved longitudinally, as shown. The blades of the agitator are laid flat against one side of the longitudinally-curved arms of the agitator and secured thereto by rivets or screws, and when the agitator is revolved by hand the. blades are presented edgewise to the sieve or screen, so as to increase the durability thereof by red ucing the friction and wear between the blades and screen and at the same time very effectively sift and discharge the Hour or contents of the bin through the sieve or screen, as will be very readily understood.
1' represents a shouldered stop, which is loosely fitted on one end of the agitator-shaft and forms a cap for the bearin g thereof. The
inner end of said cap bears against the hub of one set of arms, and the outer end of the cap covers the opening in the end wall of the case through which the agitator-shaft extends.

and in the smaller compartment or chamber, B of the bin to receive the flour from the larger compartment through the sieve and. false bottom of the bin.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A flour-bin comprising a shell or case, the bearing-plates F, secured to the ends of the case, the false bottom having the concave screen and the converging sides resting on the bearing-plates, an a gitator-sh aft jou rnaled in a bearing on one of the plates and passing through the shell the arms affixed to the shaft and carrying the blades, and a shouldered stop, I, fitted loosely on the agitatorshaft and formin g a capfor the bearing thereof, resting on and bearing at one end against one of the arms, as and for the purpose set forth.
