J.W. ANGEL.
COMBINED STOVE PIPE AND TENT SUPPORT. No. 396,899.v Patented Jan. 29,1989.
A TTURNEYS.
NITED STATESA PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN XV. ANGEL, OF FORT BUFORD, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
COMBINED STOVE-PIPE AND TENT-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 396,846, dated January 29, 1889.
Application nea ruiy s, 188s.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN WENZEL ANcEL, of Fort Buford, in the county of Buford and Territory of Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Combined Stove -Pipe and Tent- Support, ot' which the following` isa full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improvement in sup- .ports for small tents and the means for connecting said supports and tents together.
lllyimproved tent-support is a telescopic stove-pipe.
The details of its construction and the attachments for connecting its upper portion with the apex of the tent are' as hereinafter described.
The invention will be set forth in the followingI description and claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying` drawings, forming-apart of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding part-s in, all the views.
Figure 1 illustrates in vertical section a tent, stove, and stove-pipe constructed and arranged in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tent-connection with the stove-pipe. Fig. is a horizontal section of the stove, and Fig. lis a longitudinal section of the stove-pipe with sections telescoped.
1 indicates a camp-stove provided with a stove-pipe, 2, formed of detachable sections 3, which telescope together, and are fastened together when in extended position by pins #l or other suitable means. The pins 4 are preferably formed with screw-threaded ends 5, which engage screw-threaded holes in the overlapping ends of the sections. The sections 3 are shown as diminishing in size upward-that is to say, each successive one is sufficiently smaller than the section below to adapt it to slide into such lower one, as in Fig. 4c. Each section is a true cylinder having straight parallel sides. The stove 1 is made sufficiently strong to support the stovepipe 2 and the tent G, and the stove-pipe 2 in turn is made sufficiently strong to support the tent.
The top section of the stove-pipe 2, projecting above the tent G, is provided with a sleeve, 7, having a flange, S, from which is suspended by chains 9 a ring, 10, connected by rings 11 to the upper portion of the tent. The sleeve 7 is detachably secured to the top vSerial No. 278,923. (No model.)
section of the stovepipe by a pin, 4, similar to the fastenings of the sections By this means the tent is supported by the stove-pipe and stove and ventilation is afforded.
To keep out rain, &c., a shield, 12, is provided, which slips down over the top section ol' the stove-pipe and `rests on the sleeve 7. As shown, the joints of the stovepipe 2 are strengthcneifl by making their lower ends enlarged, as at 15S. The upper ends of the sections 3 are bent inward, as at 14, and thereby serve with enlargements 13 as st )ps to prevent the sections 3 from slipping out ol' each other when they are pulled out to be fastened. The stove-piliie and stove in this case take t-he place of the ordinary clumsy and unwieldy tent-pole, andthe stove-pipe may be quickly and readily telescoped together and placed in the stove, while the latter may also be utilized to receive the shield 12,. the tentpins, &c., when the tent is folded.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, an d desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent, is-
1. The combined stove-pipe and tent-support composed of hollow telescopic sections having parallel sides, and means for detachably securing' them together when drawn out, in combination with a stove and a tent, as shown and described.
2. The stove 1. and stove-pipeA 2, consisting of telescopic sections 3, formed with enlargements 13 at one end and inwardly-bent ends 1.4: at the other, and secured by pins 4c, projecting through their overlapping ends, and havin screw-threaded en ds 5, engaging screwholes in the overlapping ends, in Acombination with the anged sleeve 7 ,i secured to the top stove-pipe section and having chains 9, and the tent (5, with ring 10 at its top, connected to chains 5l, substantially as described.
C-l. The stove 1 and stove-pipe 2, consisting of telescopic sections 3, with means for detachably securing them in extended position, `and the tent il, detaehably secured to the top stove-pipe section projecting above the tent, in combination with the detachable shield 12, adapted to slide over the -top stove-pipe section and suplmrted on sleeve 7, substantially as described.
