- UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
IRONIN? -BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,895, dated January 8, 1889.
Application filed May 23, 1888. Serial No. 274,868. (No model.)
To ctZZ 10/112212 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN GUDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Anj thony, in the county of Dubois and State of 3 Indiana, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-l-3oards; andI do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, 1 and exact description of the inventiou, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invent-ion has relation toironing-boards intended to be connect-ed to tables; and it 0011- j sists in the construction and arrangement of I parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
I11 the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device attached to the table. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under side of the ironing-board. Fig. 3 is a view of the upright or standard with plateatt-ached.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A designates a table to wh i(- h my improved ironingboard is designed to be attached.
B represents the ironing-board, having at its inner end a longitudinal slot, 1), and said board is also provided with pivoted buttons 0 c on its under surface, for apurpose to be hereinafter explained.
C denotes a standard or upright having an inclined lower end, 0', and near its upper end and on opposite sides thereof it is provided with notches (l d,for a purpose presently explained. The extreme upper end of the standard or upright is provided with an inclined edge, to which is attached a plate, D, made of any suitable material and adapted to receive and hold the iron when not in use.
It will be noticed that the plate D is, when aifixed to said end, in a horizontal position. I
The operation of connecting the ironingboard and its attachments to a table is as follows: The standard 0 is placed against the edge of the table A so that the upper wall of the notch (l in said standard rests on the upper surface of the edge of the table. The ironing-board B is then, by means of the slot Z) in said board, placed so that its bifurcated end is underand against the edge of the table, the inner edge of the slot resting in the notch d of the standard. By this means a firm and reliable support is furnished to the ironingboard, and one by which the parts can be readily put together or separated when desired. Y
Should it be desired to raise the ironingboard at an incline, one of the buttons is turned between the lower wall of the notch cl and the under surface of the ironingboard, and if it is further desired to raise the said board to a higher incline, then both of said buttons are placed between the said lower wall of the notch d and the ironing-board.
\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ironing-board hereindescribed, consisting of the board having a longitudinal slot and buttons 0 c, and the standard 0, having notches d d 011 opposite sides, all combined and arranged to operate substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimonywhereof I affix my signature in presence .of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN GUDE.
