Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MYRON S. GREEN, OF NEV YORK, `N. Y.
kINlflALllSlGlTlP.
SPECIFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,436, dated January 1, 1889.
Application filed November l, 1888. Serial No. 289,712. (No model.)
.To all 1071/0117, it muy concern:
Be it known that l, MYRON S. GREEN, of the city, county, and State o't New York, have invented a new and Improved lnhaling-lip, of which the following is a t'ull, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in inhaling-tips, and haa for its object to simplify the construction of the same and provide a tip eliect-ive in operation and capable of being manufactured at a minimum cost.
The linvention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
.Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, lforming a part ot' this specitication, in which. similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
ligure lI is a central vertical section through my improved tip, illustrating the same as attached to a bottle; and Fig. 2 ie a side elevation of the Stem detached.
ln carrying out the invention, A represents a bottle, and B a centrally and vertically bored cork or stopper inserted in the month ot' the bottle. In the bore ot the cori; a socket, l), is introduced, provided with a flange at its upper end adapted to rest upontheontersurtace ol' the cork and a central longitinflinal interiorly-ihreaderl aiwrturo, d. 'lhe walls at the lower end ot' the threaded aperture d are shaped to represent an inverted trusium ot' a conmbeng so iormedlo provide a wilve-seat, d. A small channel, d?, is produced in the bottom o't the socket, leading into the conical lower extremityv ot' the said threaded aperw ture, as best illustrai ed in Fig. l.
A stem, lil, .is adapted. to screw into the socket, and to that end is constructed with which nipple is sloped outward to term a wide annular flange, el, purposed to cover and extend beyond the liange of the socket.
A longitudinal aperture, ll, is produced in the stem. E, commencing at its top and terminating near its lower extremity, as best Shown in Fig; l, and in the plain surface e? of the stem a diametrical apf-irture, 7i, is made, extending from side to side and crossing the lower end of the said longitudinal aperture H. The construction of the stem is completed by lforming in one side of the body otf the Stem an exteriorlongitudinal air-channel, L, the said channel extending from the nnder side of the tip-iiange downward.
It will be observed that when the stein is but partially7 screwed into the socket, by reason of the air-channel h the operator, having the nipple end of the stem inserted in the nostril, tor instance, may inhale or exhale without removing the same. Then the stem is screwed down into the socket until the valveplug at the lower extremity of the stem. is carried to its seat d', the bottle or other receptacle in which the device ie inserted is effectually sealed.
l'l'avingthusdescribed my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Lleters Patentln an inhaling-tip, the combination, with a Socket provided with a longitudinal internally1.l1i-(m.ile l bore, d, having conicalY walls d at its lower end and a bot-tom channel, d?, leading into said liore, ot' a stem, E, adapted to screw into the socket, having a nipple ,flanged top, e", and a conical lower end, e', and provided with a lmlgitiulinal aperture, Il, extending downward l'rom its top, a dia metrical aperture, 71, crossing the longitudinal aperture at its lmttom, and a longitudinal exterior air-elmunel, z, below the nipple flange, subsianiially as shown and described.
