UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PARK A. C. BRADFORD, OF COFFEYYILLE, KANSAS.
WATCH-CASE PENDANT.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 395,209, dated December 25, 1888.
Application filed August 2, 1888. Serial No. 281,718. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PARK A. C. BRADFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cotfeyville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vatches; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same, reterence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watches; and it relates more particularly to the stem and the manner of attaching the ring or bow to said stem.
It has for its object to so secure the ring as to permit of its being readily attached to or detached from the stem, and to prevent loss of the bow. It has also for its object to enable the key of stem-wimling watches to pass through the stem to the stem-winding parts of the movement unobstructed by the pendantbow.
The novelty resides in the peculiar combirangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the pendant of a watch constructed in accordance with my invention, with the bow detached. Pig. 2 is a cross-section on the line :r of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bow detached, and Fig. -i is a like view of the keeper de tached.
Reference now being bad to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the pendant-stem ot' a watch of any suitable construction, provided at diametrically-opposite sides with a groove, d, which is dovetail, as shown best in Fig. 2, and extending lengthwise of the pendant-stem, as shown best in Fig. 1. The bow B is formed with dovetail ends 1), as shown in Fig. 2).
In practice the dovetailed ends of the how are engaged with the open ends of the slots nearest the rim of the watch-case, one upon either side of the stem, and then slid up in said slot toward the end of the stem. The front or open ends of the slots are then closed up by means of the dovetailed keeper (,whieh is held in placeby means of a suitable fastening, such as the screw 1:.
\Yhat I claim to be new is The combination, with the petulant-stem provided with longitudinal d vetailcd slots, of the bow or ring having dovetailed ends engaging said slots, and a detachabledovetailed keeper, as U, substantially as and lorthepurpose speci lied.
In testimony whereof I attix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PARK A. C. BRADFORD.
