J. GRAY.
REVERSIBLE SHOE LAST.-
No. 395.133. Patented Dec. 25, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES GRAY, OF LAWRENCE, MASSACHUSETTS.
REVERSIBLE SHOE-LAST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,133, dated December 25, 1888.
Serial No. 280,713. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES GRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double Re\"ersible Lasts, for Use in Repairing Shoes or Boots; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refen ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a top view, of double reversible lasts provided with my improvement. Fig. 3 is a side View, and Fig. i a top view, of the heel-rest to be used with said last-s. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal and vertical section of the lasts and the heel rest, a shoe being shown as applied to one of them.
My invention consists in providing each last with a series of sockets to receive the shank of a heel-rest formed for use in connection with either of said lasts.
In the drawings, A and B' denote two me- I tallic repairing-lasts formed in one piece with l a connectingshank, 0, having the extensions D or E for the shank of the shoe beyond the lines as and y. I provide each last with a series of sockets, a or b, to receive the shank c of a heel-rest, E, formed as shown, and arranged with the last for supporting a shoe, as represented in Fig. 5.
Each last, with the heel-rest, is adaptable to several different sizes of shoes, and the whole constitutes an implement of great usefulness and efficiency :for the purpose for which it is designed.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- The double reversible last, substantially as described, each last being connected with the other by a shank and provided with a series of sockets, as shown, in combination with a heel-rest provided with a shank to enter either series of the sockets to aid in supporting a shoe when applied to either last, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES GRAY.
